I had a look around Japanese laws and it seems that (I am speaking under correction) if the murder was not the result of or part of another crime for example; arson, rape, terrorism, etc. Then the punishment is not as long. There are also other factors that come into play which the judge takes into consideration, when handing down a sentence.

This happened a while ago and I am surprised it took them almost a decade to get a successful conviction. He could have admitted to the crime in 2016 and would have probably been out of prison by now.

Took a while for this story to make it onto this site; I first heard about it on Instagram of all places. Either way, I’m glad this man has lost his appeal, but his sentence is way too short.

Finally this is over. Now justice can be served for this deadly sin.
