Again, I hope this means Fushigi Yuugi thin-packs. Assuming Geneon still has FY.

A thinpak can't be that much cheaper than the signature series after the stupid boxes being $200 a pop (for 4 dvds, wasn't it?) Particularly when they were included in RightStuf's 25 for $100 sale--that was $4 per dvd. I had already bought them as they were released which is why I noticed I could have saved a lot, but I didn't mind as much since the $50 I paid was way better than the $200 Pioneer had been asking forever.
WOuldn't it be about $50? Maybe more? |

Most of the thin packs are much cheaper, the smaller ones about 30 and the larger ones about 80. May not be as good as the 25 for a 100 deal that rightstuf has had but much better then the 200 previously asked.

I don't know how you came to that conclusion. Ownership and being put in charge of something is two different things. It's like NFL coaches, and the owners of the team.

Did you forget
Geneon is owned by Dentsu, 78% of Dentsu is owned by the ADV Founder. Geneon annouces ADV will handle all marketing. Geneon Lays off 5 from Sales Staff.... Read the writting on the wall, ADV <-> Geneon Merge. |

Wait, is John Ledford invested in Dentsu, or was it referring to his ownership percentage of ADV?
The article was kinda vague on that part. |

It's basically not a "Sorta". I've said all along that this is a merger, and there's nothing which indicates this to be untrue, even now. |

John Ledford does not own 78.4% of Dentsu. He owns 78.4% of ADV. "that anime distributor" refers to ADV, no where in that news byte does it say he owns that much of Dentsu as it refers to the another press release. |

I disagree with that. ADV Doesn't own Dentsu. Take a look at Dentsu's Wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dentsu If John Ledford owns Denstu (2005 income = 32 Billion Yen, market cap = 1.9 Trillion Yen), then that makes him a billionaire. I don't see him dominating Japans advertising market (as much as he wishes he could ). Since Dentsu also promotes Ghibli releases, how come ADV doesn't have those rights instead of Kadokawa Shoten? Dentsu now fully owns Geneon USA. The article states that "that distributor" being ADV is majority owned by Mr. Ledford. There's been previous press releases in ANN a while back about Sojitz buying into ADV. Geneon has outsourced their sales and marketing to ADV. It's as plain as that unless said otherwise by each company. I'm going to assume that Geneon and ADV reps will be questioned about that closely the next time they show up at a convention. |

Just poorly worded. I assume it means he owns 75% of ADV.

Dude, when it says anime distributor, it means ADV, especially when in the very next statement it mentions Sojitz, ADV's business partner. Plus there is no way that John Ledford owns 78%(which would make him chairman of the board by the way) of Dentsu. Dentsu is a mega-goliath of a company with higher turn arounds than many small nations entire GDP. He would have to be a mega billionare as an individual to own a super majority like that. As far as an ADV, Geneon merger, that is of course still possible. But I am not betting on that. Everything I have read about Matt and John is that they like there independent company because they can do what they want, and that they would like to keep it that way. If they merged with Dentsu then they would lose a bunch of control, and allow a mega goliath's foot in the door for an eventual complete buy out. My bet is that they keep things in the relm of well written strategic alliances. |

Actually no it's not a merger. As of now Geneon is simply handing over their marketing issues to ADV. There has been NO word that they won't still be producing anime. Just that ADV will be the ones marketing it and it will be under their name. So no this is not an actual merger. |

Perhaps those in charge in Japan saw the relative success of the Kadokawa ventures here, looked at their own performance here, and decided that type of arrangement made more sense. Also, while ADV did dub for Funimation/Kadokawa their FMP! TSR release, they are also dubbing the new Appleseed for Warner. So it is a possibility that Geneon could use ADV for dubbing in the future as well.
