I'd hate to think Justin wouldn't be able to pull this off. Provided, the guy went through so much crap to get those Cyborg 009 DVDs in proper order, but this? Woof.

I remember tuning into Moncolle Knights once or twice as a kid. I really hope those broadcast copies turn up. I'd hate to think I've just seen media disappear. Crying or Very sad

Oh no! Best of luck to him. If he finds and releases the dub I'll buy it Day 1!

Another thing I love about Discotek: They directly reach out to and interact with other fans. That really says a lot about the people behind the company. Also, I have no doubt they'll be able to pull this off. I mean, if they're able to miraculously find a dub of a movie from the sixties (A Thousand and One Nights, which they recently announced they licensed at Anime Lockdown) that's been unseen for over fifty or so years, then I don't see why they can't pull this off either. If it turns out the original dub is lost, then that's a shame. But let's not lose hope just yet. Someone out there has the masters in some way, shape, or form.

Oh man I hope they find the masters for Medabots. I'd love to see it streaming somewhere, and I'd kill for the subbed version.

While I admire their dedication to preserving media, if it really is looking net to impossible, why not quite or if they really need a dub, just re-dub it.

Hmm, they might do that if they can't find the original dub. Don't take my word for it, though.

They're doing this because it's financially impossible for them to recut the masters. Redubbing from scratch would not only defeat the purpose of a nostalgia release like this, but it would also cost significantly more.

And I don't think the cost for new dub would be worth it for something as obscure as this. I personally wouldn't mind a new and more accurate dub for Mon Colle Knights, but financially, it would be suicide for Discotek. So, finding the old dub is their best bet. Otherwise, they'd have to release this as sub-only and while there surely is audience for that, it would be significantly smaller than release with the original dub.

I love those dubs. I hope they are able to find them soon. Do wonder how these things happen.

Negligence, really. Somewhere down the line, they lost track of the masters.

Or, more likely in this case, Disney's inability to share. While it may be possible that not even Disney, who bought Saban in 2001, the very same year the dub was done, has the material, just like Justin mentioned, it is more likely that they still have the material in their vault, but don't want to share even though they don't hold the rights to the show any longer. And that's even worse case scenario than pure negligence IMO. But that's Disney for you.

That's a crying shame that the dub masters for Moncolle Knights are lost or inaccessible. The show itself was a treat for us kids watching FOX Kids back in the day, even if FOX screwed up the broadcast order of the episodes.

Heck, I'm just glad that we even got the subbed version at all now.

Maybe not in this day and age (even though THAT in itself is also subject to debate based on upon current industry views) but once upon a time, it was embraced by the anime community and is arguably what really expanded the presence of anime here in the west. So while piracy is not good, it's not entirely evil either.

You can still find references to Mon Colle Knights on Disney's distribution website, so they likely have the masters. The issue is getting ahold of someone who'd deal with a small company like Discotek.

I'm not sure if Nelvana would still have the Medabots materials. Their license would've expired nearly a decade ago. Who knows if they kept those tapes when they switched offices in 2010. They definitely had digital versions of them at one point, since those episodes used to be offered on Amazon.

In both cases, things are probably made worse by COVID-19, since I doubt either company has everyone working. The good news is that both of these shows aired internationally and had foreign dubs based on them. There are bound to be copies somewhere.

But wait a minute, how is Disney willing to share Super Mario Bros. Super Show, but not Mon Colle Knights or Super Pig?
