Hopefully that 'big announcement' is the rest of the manga getting an anime adaptation and not some sort manga Season 2 continuation.

They need to put it out of its misery. The last 2 arcs have been pretty poor

I don't think it's an anime announcement. Maybe they're pulling a Gintama and moving.

I hope it's the continuation and end of the anime, but 99 chapters into 24 episodes would be more rushed than usually.
First season adapted 60 chapters into 24 episodes, season 2 adapted 56 chapters into 13 episodes, and season 3 adapted 97 chapters into 24 episodes... So if there is a season 4, it would be season 3 all over again.

The Central Arc of the manga turned off a lot of readers which caused lower volume sales and seems like the series never fully recovered after that. I'll be surprised if the series doesn't get at least one epilogue chapter released elsewhere like what happened with Saiki Kusuo and Gintama. There's also the chance of moving to a monthly magazine or doing a sequel like The Prince of Tennis did before. Or maybe a spin off novel to tie up loose ends like Bleach did? Many options here but it's going to have a rushed ending no matter what happens.

That's around the time when I stopped reading, so I can believe it. Not sure what it was exactly, but something about that arc just never sat right with me. I haven't heard many positives about anything that's come after it either, so I don't feel like I've missed much for dropping it when I did.

I loved food war but my god the central arc dragged a bit and the arc after is honestly atrocious.
I am glad it's ending and hopefully it ends properly

The central arc is when Erina's dad took over the school right? If so that's when I also gave up on the series. I own 19 or 20 volumes and have no idea what to do with them...

While I like food wars, I always thought it was a cheap imitation of Yakitate Japan right to the going off the rails ending. At least YJ threw all caution to the wind and went the route of crazy bread people in the last arc. FW was just kind of mess from the point Erina's dad was introduced.

Wait wait wait wait, the Central Arc was the one that turned people OFF? That was the arc where I finally said the story was actually good because I actually thought Erina was an actual character instead of being the literal worst. I kept reading up to this point mostly because I kept being urged to do so, saying it was going to get good, and that was the point where it did. Because in the earlier chapters, I just freaking hated everyone. The earliest chapters were really just some of the worst.
But if there's any arcs that I would say is consistently killing my desire for more Soma, it's definitely the most recent one. The villain in it is just lame, there's not a lot of cooking, and it's just a drag to read.

I keep reading "The Central arc was bad" lol are you serious?
The Central arc redeemed Erina. If anything people turned off because it was quite obvious that the OTP (ErinaxSoma) was going to happen. Sorry Megumi fans. I like her too but she's no Erina.
Erina is the reason Soma keeps pushing. She's the one he wants to cook for and in turn, Soma makes cooking fun for Erina.
Btw, the anime was top 4 (& probably #1 if you exclude long running shonen shows) every time it has aired so yeah... Food Wars is quite popular.
Sad news day. I hope they announce Season 4 and a 2nd season for the manga. I'd love to see Erina&Soma trying to move their restaurant up the rankings like master Shinomiya

Eh, while I think the Central Arc had a good conclusion, a lot of what it took to get there felt pretty underwhelming. Especially the Elite 10, who after being built up across all the stuff with Kuga and Eizen mostly amounted to a bunch of uninteresting gimmicks who either got clowned on by Soma or hogged focus away from the rest of the Totsuki supporting cast.
Similarly, the latest arc has annoyed me basically non-stop since Saiba revealed his weird plan to force Erina to marry him that everyone just kinda shrugs off. While the final bout between him and Soma was pretty good, nearly every shokugeki leading up to that was really, really boring and Saiba himself had basically 0 personality outside of everyone telling us how cool and amazing he is.

@Lossthief you made good points but I think you're reading the manga/story at its surface. There's so much more.
The Elite 10 didn't get destroyed by Soma, in fact, they were so good that Joichiro & Gin had to train them. Otherwise, they'd have been pulverized. Even then, the Elite 10 had a major flaw. They sad on their thrones and didn't try to get better except for the Top 3. Hence, when Soma takes one he understand that to truly learned he has to battle everyone to really cut his teeth. The guy has the mindset of the ultimate underdog.
As for Saiba, I keep thinking that he just wants to be the good son but is going about it the wrong way. He's only after Erina for what she represents not because he's interested in her. Even his cooking is what he thinks that it's necessary not what he really wants to do. Soma showed him. Saiba is looking for love but he won't be loved been a huge asshole Soijiro learned that.
Hope you stick around for the end though. This manga is on my all time list and I'm sad to see it go. There's so much more that they can do with it. Hope it won't end like Kenichi.

This last arc has without exaggeration been among the worst I've ever read in manga, right up there with Bleach. And I actually liked FoodWars before it.
Central was draggin a lot but at least it still utilized some of the supporting cast and had a good conclusion. But the Asahi-arc was just terrible in every aspect.
I assume they will finish the anime with the Central arc and then call it quits. No point going into what happens after the timeskip (even though the first few chapters after it were pretty great).
