By all means folks, suggest suicides, you know I win. Twisted Evil Laughing

Cyanide prevents the cells in your body from being able to use oxygen, so the result is death by slow suffocation. I would not recommend it.

Agreed... o.O...

MEGA SPOILER --> spoiler[OMG!! Fumika was actually once a normal person!!!! Shocking!!! >o>, i want to dig in moar on what Fumika's past was like, and where did she get that awesome gun from??? Mad]
Sigh, i have to agree tho, if you'd pick a creature, humans would be the worst out of them all... ._. .... i have to always think about the things we do and why we do it, it's so puzzling.. but im sure not everyone is "the worst" only some.... ney? =-=

I'm dropping it. Too sensationalist, too illogical, too stereotypical, and Fumika's comments about humans in episode three are eye-rolling and seriously false. Kind of suspected that it might turn into an otaku-styled drama (especially considering the writer is behind the mess that is Code Geass), but hoped that it wouldn't turn out to be like that. Should've stuck with my gut.

AH!!
I had a decent opinion of the series after the first episode, and I found the ending of the second to have been quite fitting and mildly (but not really) touching, but have yet to watch the third episode.
However, after learning that Ichirō Ōkouchi is the writer, it sort of compels you to consider watching the rest of the series to see just when he decides to abandon all plot and reason for basic whim. (This is not unlike the feeling that compels you to watch any excerpt of Musashi to see just how bad it is.)
Judging by your comments of the third episode, Ōkouchi-san decided to do so rather early in this series. Laughing

I'm gonna stick with it anyway. I told myself I would regardless of how it may turn out. That, and this would be my first Okouchi series, so the name didn't really phase me. If anything Shigofumi could be for good laughs later on. Smile

Meh...

I thought it was awesome.

The only show in the last 8 months that has seriously peeked my interest. I especially like the psychological aspect of the show. Ep. 3 has been my favorite. spoiler[But was it just me, or did daiki's reason for committing suicide go deeper than just because I wanted to know what it was like to jump? I could have sworn there was a part in his letter that said something along the lines of, "It wasn't that something made me want to commit suicide; but more like there wasn't a reason to go on living." It was an interesting twist on society's view of the suicidal catalyst. Rather than emphasizing the negative reinforcement that leads to suicide, they focused on the lack of a positive reinforcement for life.]

I don't know, I found that pretty interesting.

@ hellkorn:
Fumika's comments on humans are not so much false as it is incorrect. lol
Sure, monkey's and chimpanzees have shown their affinity for ostracization(--yes, I did make that word up.), murder, theft, etc, too. But humans do the same things in a much more interesting, creative and sometimes, downright creepy way. And by that I mean no other animal has thought of tens' of thousands of ways to kill/steal/and alienate their own kind. Wink

I've watched all three episodes so far and I thought the first 2 episodes were pretty decent. The views and topics brought up in each episode spoiler[jumping off a building just to jump and child pornography and the psychological side effects] are intriguing. But I agree with everyone else about the characters. They are forgettable and don't do much to help the show. However, I think I'll keep watching for now and see where they run with this.

Yup. Basically if you have even a remotely critical eye then you know that you either can't take this seriously at all or else you won't be able to enjoy it.

I fall within the latter. Bat-shit crazy stuff should be enjoyable by someone who is a competent writer, not when someone decides that they're creatively empty and pull out cliché after cliché.

Hanging, if done correctly, snaps your neck, thereby killing you instantly. A short drop and a sudden stop, that's what kills you, not asphyxiation. Somewhat less painful than cyanide, I would assume.

The police officer from the third episode, that was the same guy from the before, correct? And was he the one who mentioned knowing a girl who shot her father somewhere in the early to middle part of the episode (I'm too lazy to watch again and check). I gather from the ending of episode 3 we'll be getting a few more recurring characters than just Fumika and Kanaka.

Boy, even though I'm back from Arizona now, things have gotten really crazy! Haven't had much time to watch episode 3 yet, but I plan on getting around to it latter today. That'll probably be the last episode I'll watch since it's licensed now, only problem with that is at the price it's selling for I'm not sure I want to buy it! Anime dazed

EDIT: Just watched episode 3, I'd say that was a reminder of whether or not I indeed do end up buying the series, I'll definitely be finishing it, that's for sure. It definitely seems like it's a series worthy of at least that. I definitely have to agree the concepts for some of the ideas they've explored have been pretty interesting, this last one probably being the most so.

At first I thought "So....... he decided to take his own life just to see what it was like? That's kind of retarded." But now that I think about it more, and after I read what Zero89 said, it seems to make a little bit more sense now. You don't necessarily have to have anything negative going on in your life, but more like nothing going on in your life at all. You know, more of a "I'm bored with life" type of thing, which can lead people sometimes to exploring some really out of the ordinary ideas, like "I wonder what it feels like to kill myself" or whatever it may be. That's definitely an interesting way of viewing it, in fact I don't think I've ever thought of it that way. It'll definitely be interesting to see what kinds of ideas this series explores latter on in regards to that.

This normally goes against what I preach, but this series for that price is not worth it. I'm not buying (and wasn't really planning on it anyway).

Episode 4:

Uhh, there's a reason why I don't like most yuri. And it's not because I'm a girl; most of the yuri I've seen/read deals with really weak and uninteresting girls that whine about things and make really nostalgic facial expressions all the time. (That's a problem I have with a few of the character designs. The sad, drooping eyes can be really annoying.) Anyway, I was even less interested in what was going on this time.

I was more into the spoiler[new girl -- the other letter deliverer. Chiaki is her name, I believe, and her staff (Matoma?) has a male voice. Completely different personality! It's not that I though Fumika was the only letter deliverer, but it was nice to find out a little more about the way the "Shigofumi business" works. At the same time we're finding out about Fumika's past. (It seems to be moving along a little quickly, though.)]

I'm still hanging in there. Cool

Yeah, that's why I was saying probably. But now that I think about it, yeah, considering the price, as well as the show itself likely not being among my favorites, I think I will indeed just go ahead and keep watching via fansubs.

Although unfortunately from what you were talking about in regards to episdoe 4, things might be going downhill maybe? We'll see, I'll stick with it as well. Wink

Yea I think I'm going to go ahead and drop this too. I could barely get through the 4th episode. I'm just not that interested.

Well just watched episode 4, probably the worst episode thus far but I still has some interest in it anyways. Like AG said, it was interesting to see the some story progression here, with the new Shigofumi carier and her "different" staff, as well as more of Fumika's past. Looks like there'll be more of a storyline to this than I thought. But other than that it really wasn't anything special.

You guys should stick with it.It's getting better.Episode 5 spoiler[Despite how dark the last four episodes have been, episode 5 is starting to tell the back story of Fumika. Her and Chiaki bump into each other delivering a letter to a neko. After all the seriousness we've seen from Fumika and Chiaki, they are still clumsy junior high school girls, after all.Fumika doesn't like nekos(not as bad as say,Ranma, but it's pretty funny)She gets the sickly blue look and freezes up.The neko seems to be playing around with her too.I don't like how she keeps running into Kaname though.I think they are going to slow down with the random deliveries, and focus on Fumika.]

MEGA SPOILER spoiler[Kaname calls around to find Fumika(apparently, she is not dead)Fumika is in a coma.
(she sees herself at the end, when Kaname locates her hospital room.)]

I like it so far,and am going to pick up the overpriced DVDs.
