Wow. I thought after the events of the final episode in Jigoku Shoujo Futakomori, Ai Enma should be done and dead, though the very last part provides a more open-ended way in the series.
I hope Ai Enma works for the good side (whoever it be) this time. After 52 episodes of her searching for identity and redemption, it would be lame to place her back in Hell business after she redeemed herself at the end. |

It's a series that can be milked. For someone like myself who liked both the on going plot and the short revenge stories, I could see a third series. From what I heard this series was/is really popular in Japan, so I'm not that surprised it came back for another season.

Exciting and somewhat confusing. A lot of shows I like seem to be getting third seasons lately and more often than not I just can't see how they're gonna do it or what they're gonna do with it. Hell Girl had a satisfying conclusion at the end of the second season (though a tad predictable) but it's kinda odd that they'd come back and wanna mess with it again to maybe fly in the face of the originals.

I bet if it sells well, they'll license the next two seasons. Anyway, this is good news. I just bought volume 1 and I loved it. Actually, the fact that there's more than 26 episodes is news to me too.

I'm thinking that Hell Girl appeals to the ye olde supernatural horror genre associated with Japan's ancient lore. It also helps that there's a likable supporting cast and the endings aren't always necessarily happy. It's only real downfall is that it tends to get a mite repetitive, but it does hit its stride and provides a good watch.
Not to mention that I will always argue that Hell Girl is better than Death Note. |

Well here is hoping they even finish the production run for the first series - I would love it if they would also do the Drama series as well - that has been awesome, but only a few eps are available with english subtitles...

I'm skeptical of this announcement, as with Higurashi. I wouldn't mind another Hell Girl series, as I enjoyed the series' episodic nature as well as its overreaching plotspoiler[ (which, as was mentioned, seemed to have reached a conclusion...)] I feel like the revenge stories could carry the series if they change it up. There are so many topics and ideas that could make a good backstory for the Hell Correspondance, instead of just having every other episode cover high school bullying. I realize it probably has to do with the series' target audience, but...

Now, if only Funimation would hurry up and license the second season. With the plans to air it on IFC, the sales for the first season should ultimately be pretty good. (At least, I hope they will be.)

Hmm, after the mediocre first series, I am surprised that they even made a second season, let alone announce a third one. Still, the ratings on ANN for the second season are much better than the first one, so perhaps I should give the second season a shot. Who knows, I just may like it enough to watch the third.
Seriously? Death Note kept me guessing all the way through it's run. It is a bit repetitive, yes, but at least it managed to throw enough twists in there to keep the story suspenseful and interesting. I can't say the same thing for Hell Girl. The first season kept rehashing the same concept over and over again, which ended up being quite boring in the long run, since the writers couldn't come up with enough twists to keep things interesting. |

this is such a stupid idea, especially after the way the second season ended. the only way they could do this is if it's a completely new character.

See, I'm about the characters, and I could really side with either faction. Neither Light or L seemed all that likeable. Add in that it's a Shounen Jump title that loves its exposition and you turn me off. I think Hell Girl tackles the death wish issue better, anyway, and the last arc almost justifies the shortcomings of the first two volumes. |
