I noticed that Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi got a re-release, but I also noticed that it says the aspect ratio is 16:9 but I'm pretty sure I remember the show being originally 4:3.
So how does that work? Is the image stretched or cropped? And if so is there the option to play it in the original aspect ratio? |

I have the ADV litebox version. It also says it is 16:9. Perhaps you misremember the show.

I'm pretty sure the original ADV release on DVD is in 4:3. I assume any 16:9 version must be "panned-and-scanned." The version that ADV showed on its now-defunct cable service was also 4:3. The entry at bluray.com also says it is in 4:3.
The only version of this I see out there costs about $250! Is there a newer one at a reasonable price? |

The ADV singles of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi are 16:9 anamorphic widescreen.
I just checked mine to confirm that. Also, a new collection was released earlier this month. Right Stuf has it for $26 right now. |

Wonder if the Japanese blu-ray is any better than the DVD. Probably doesn't have English sub-titles.
