EDIT: I finally realize that this thread is a bit out of place... Embarassed That it should be in the anime music, soundtrack threads etc.

I don't know if anyone cares anymore about this talented musician who's toured and played with Yoko Kanno's group "The Seatbelts" (& that he only helped create/complete a most memorable scene in Cowboy Bebop's 5th episode: "Ballad of the Fallen Angels", and mellowly eases us out of EVERY episode of GiTS SAC 2ndGIG -amongst numerous other anime soundtrack contributions), BUT:

Since he is a resident of Matawan, N.J. -near where I live, I caught him touring as guitarist with "The Dolls" (whom he's been with since 2004) in Bruce Springsteen's ol' haunt Asbury Park, performing at The Stone Pony last Friday.
(I haven't followed The Dolls much before or after their newly formed group, btw)

Since he didn't obviously have any solo vocal parts, or spoke much at all into his mic in between sets, I made SURE to get my $30 worth and speak with him -after the decibels subsided.

I sat at the table next to him (before he came), but was respectfully polite when he did, as he was with & talking much to his mother (probably a rare/brief chance to spend time with her) when I stole a chair from his table, and hung out for a better time to speak. (see, I ALMOST interrupted his mother then when I said "good evening"... a no, no!)
After the last late gig ended, I thought I'd ask Steve something to grab his attention (after breaking the ice by thanking him for a great time):

"I've actually been drawn here to the Dolls, because of your collaboration with Yoko Kanno -does that surprise you?"

I figured he might not even realize the average american Dolls-type-music fan would even have ever HEARD his work from anime. But since I am not that type:
--He didn't answer yes or no (very modest as to not discredit The Seatbelts' talent -OR boast), but became instead thoughtfully introspective. Looking down, He replied looking at me, partly through his razor-cut, jet-black & punky hair -with his heavily mascara-darkened eyes:

"THAT was a beautiful coming together of East & West. (weaving his fingers together) -You know, I played with them!"
"The SEATBELTS!" I said.
"Yes." Steve said.
"That's fantastic!" I remarked.

I mentioned the irony that after all of that, it came full circle -the soundtrack CD's (from Bebop -I didn't go into detail) were actually MIXED right here in New Jersey, lol! (not all the tracks...)
I then complimented him as to personally only having had "scrtatched the surface" of his own complete talents of being able to play great guitar, write music, AND sing very well -that it would insure his continued success, one I'd greatly look forward to hearing more from, as well as congratulate him about having a cool write-up in the local Asbury Park Press. (COVER story in the entertainment section no-less!)

Anyway, as not to press him further --because he was exclusively there for his mom, I shook his hand (he does with the fingers) -yep he IS a "Doll" alright!, and bid him adieu. (it was 1:30am) Yeah, I held back BIG time. But, importantly I stirred up fond memories of his, of an experience that still yields interest from possibly unlikely groups. THAT was good enough!
(to impart something positive that could be lasting)

Hope I didn't get anyone's hopes up as to having lots of info regarding his anime work, or future projects involved therein -from his own words. Just a simple lil' treat, a quick drive from my house that I couldn't pass up. -A chance meeting with a musician from CLASSIC anime. That's all.
Lots-O'-self-control, indeed! (yep, "Words that I couldn't say"...)

Thanks for gettin' this far! Run-on sentences and all, lol.
It's looong and drawn-out, because I haven't spoken about it to anyone.
I can provide more info +more (non-anime) career facts from his write-up/article much later too, after rest.
Zzzzz.................
