Hi. I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I just got an account at the iTunes Japan store. So I'm sitting there and it hits me...I don't know what to buy! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what anime/J-Pop, bands/singers I should try?

Much like any other recommendation thread, you need to tell us a bit about what you're looking for ?
Do you want anime theme songs, japanese rap, pop, hip-hop, rock, etc...
Any favorite Japanese musicians or songs?
Obviously anyone could give you a list of their favorites, but their tastes might be nothing like yours...

Ooops
Well I'm already familiar with some of the..."mainstream" singers we have here...The Pillows, BoA, Kotoko,Utada(who is awsome she rocks),Orange Range,UVERworld etc. I also enjoyed Giovanni Mirabassi who did a piano piece for Bleach that was beautiful.
I also adore opera...don't cringe if you find the ones where the singer isn't caught up in thier own verbato it's really quite beautiful.
So you see I'm kinda all over the board(no pun intended) on this one and since I only have 1500 yen to start with I want to make it count.
So...any suggestions?

I like Ayumi Hamasaki who's a big name in Jpop
Anna Tsuchiya (half of her stuff is in English) she's more along Jrock
m-flo is good if you like Japanese R&B like stuff
I definately second L'arc and Asian Kung Fu Generation (AKFG) for Jrock
Mai Kuraki is some good Jpop
some lesser known (and possibly harder to find) are:
Deen and Ken Hirai which are both on the slow ballad Jpop/R&B blend type of music
Ai Otsuka is pretty nice too. (also a Jpop) And a lot of her stuff is available as she's pretty popular in Japan from my knowledge.
enjoy your purchases. I still need to try out one of those cards myself...

Thanks to both of you I'll try them out. So far all I've been doing is getting hard to find american music. The irony.
