The Episode 12 fiasco is because of the masters used. It used the Blu-ray masters, which cut out black screens and end cards. The rest of the episodes uses broadcast masters. Go! Princess PreCure uses Blu-ray masters all the way and there was no problem with subtitle timing.

Oh, I'm glad you're reviewing this! This is one I've heard a lot of different opinions on, but the description makes it sound really fun.

Them choosing Linkru for a translation choice is definitely a bit weird. I didn't start watching the main anime until it got added to CR but I remembered when the girls would show up in crossover movies, the fansubs used Linkle

Linkle is definitely the more sensible and better sounding translation, but this is about what to expect from Toei in-house subs.

I'll be honest, I found this to be one of the more frustrating seasons of Pretty Cure, and all because of Ha-chan once she becomes a Cure. Seriously, the show not only shills her to no end even when she does stuff that she shouldn't, she actively steals moments that should belong to other characters. Seriously, you'd think the episode about Liko reuniting with her dad would be more about Liko since it's, well, about her father, and that she'd actually do stuff in that episode, but nope! Ha-chan is the one who gets stuff done. Uuuugh.

I'm amused that even official subs haven't fully solved poor Liko's identity crisis, as the subtitles use Liko but the episode names and descriptions use Riko.

I thought this was one of the weaker Precure seasons. The villains are among the least memorable in the franchise, and there was always this sensation that there was nothing at stake.

I didn't watch the whole season, but from what I watched, Mirai and Riko's dynamic was definitely its biggest strength, and while I wasn't the biggest Mahou Tsukai fan, I got excited when the news of a second season came out, as I wanted to see these two again. I'm also guessing one the reasons this season was chosen for a sequel is because the characters were already aged up in their Precure forms, so now you don't have to waste time and resources in designing new adults forms Laughing

This to me sums up Tropical Rouge Pretty Cure in a nutshell.

Which was by design. It was a light season focused on situational comedy and smaller character arcs just like Smile because both were created in light of darker situations in real life. Maho is just like that because every general is a cardboard cutout (something so widely acknowledged that the head writer talked about it and said he would do better with Star Twinkle) and their goals had to remain nebulous in order to preserve secrecy about Deusmast, which ultimately was not worth it.

Besides the original pretty cure, splash star and yes pretty cure five actually had demos by Toei at the time for presentation, some of the them can be seen on YouTube.
With Maho, I think of it as one lower series as it always seemed "who is the bad guy?" but there's a new one every other week. Just about like Wonderful is now with only short scenes of the wolf villain.

I have admittedly only looked at the subs for episode 1, but I don't think these are from Toei. They quite frankly look too competent. The terminology might have been a Toei mandate, but the translation as a whole reads too well. Shame episode 12 is completely and utterly mistimed though... Had a look at it now and, yeah, it's like mildly annoying pre-opening, and completely unwatchable for the rest of it.

I remember watching this when it first aired a couple years ago and absolutely loved it.
