HIDIVE is somewhat known for getting lewder anime than Crunchyroll (not 100% accurate, but part of the appeal of Sentai Filmworks is the uncensored release of a fanservicey show HIDIVE licenses). Them securing the ATX broadcast is a good move.

I'm guessing "censored audio" means bleeping will be involved.

That sounds about right. It's not a big deal to me personally, but it's nice to have confirmation that some parts are censored for one reason or another. It's best to be open about that type of thing.

TBH, in a fan service-heavy show, censoring the audio can be funny in contrast to the uncensored/less-censored T&A.

This is great news! I don't know how much extra negotiating or whatnot it takes to secure these versions for a simulcast, but I appreciate HiDive going through the effort to do so. It's really much appreciated. Smile

Not necessarily. Most prior shows over the past few years that have versions with modified audio simply remove certain sounds or voice lines in some scenes.

That's really good news, too bad I can't legally watch it anymore.

The kind of anime censoring that I care about is how every show turns down the brightness a lot during any of the flashier scenes. This looks awful, and they do it everywhere.

If Chained Soldier darkens the image during those scenes, then I'm calling this false advertising.

When can we get a streaming service that removes that kind of censorship?

Hey, so, someone here that get severe migraines and other illness symptoms from said scenes, this is actually a good thing and I would prefer these masters are made available for streaming releases. As I've gotten older, I've become more susceptible to these type of issues and there's stuff I cannot go back to or re-watch (and even play) without having a chance of having an attack that triggers my migraines as a result. I don't get seizures, but these effects can cause severe problems for me with my migraines. Other people may have worse reactions to this.

This was due to what happened in December 1997 involving Pokemon (see: Pokemon Shock incident) and since then, programs not only Japan, but world wide, are subjected to tests known as "Harding Tests", which various shows are run through to check to see if there's any chance of epilepsy, photosensitivity, etc., and have to be modified as needed (either during production or post-production).

I appreciate having these and this helps make these shows more accessible for it. While I do think an option to allow for both masters to exist on the servers would be great, ultimately this makes anime (and other stuff) more accessible for me if this stuff is done. If I had to ultimately make a choice between one or the other, I'd rather the hardened master be the main one available.

Honestly, really, really, wish Discotek could've been allowed at least for the streaming masters for Gao Gai Gar to alter the footage, but you know....

That said, I know it doesn't look "great" but this is needed to ensure and guarantee safety of the audience watching the shows (especially for a good chunk of anime that is still targeted to kids and general audience, though obviously not the case here). If it wasn't for this, I'd probably not be able to watch and play stuff as much as other people.

Well it's false adverising then. It's nothing new to anime and has been on TV broadcasts for almost 3 decades now. It's intentionally done to prevent "Photosensitive Epilepsy" which can cause people to have seizures or other problems related to pulsing/flashing/strobing lights and colours.

Thank you for sharing. I also suffer from severe migraines and I wouldn’t be able to watch much anime if they didn’t dim the necessary scenes.

It feels great to have a reason to not outright hate Hidive for a change. Great move, Crunchyroll probably wouldn't have done it, so I gotta give credit where it's due. Still I couldn't sub even if I wanted because they think the world doesn't extend beyond the US.

About the dimming, why not just let people decide? In a streaming service It would be perfectly doable. Paying customers don't deserve to watch butchered versions like many JJK episodes that were straight up ruined.

This is a fantastic move. HIDIVE only has 5 new simulcasts for Winter, but uncensored streams are bound to give them good numbers.

HIDIVE needs to set themselves apart from Crunchyroll, and this is a pretty good way to do it. When you don’t have as much money, you need to get creative.

Good question. How much would it cost to have light sensory as an option? I don’t want to put anyone with perception issues in a place where they can’t watch the show.
