This is sad, I used Amazon a lot to import from the US the series that weren't released in France. I guess I just have to learn Japanese and import them from the source, then.

I wonder what environmental reason actually means. Like actual environmental regulations? Also is this a physical medium thing and not digital?

It is bit concerning if they stopped e-book sales also. I used to buy titles for my kindle a lot and some of them were licensed by Seven Seas.

Ebook sales shouldn't have anything to do with an environmental decision, unless suddenly the electricity you use to read it is an issue

If this was an environmental decision, is it only for Seven Seas? If it was, seems kinda sus.

I assume it’s related to this: https://www.reuters.com/business/environment/eu-agrees-law-preventing-import-goods-linked-deforestation-2022-12-06/ However, the EU aren’t arbitrarily shutting down companies. They just want companies to provide a certificate stating they their goods aren’t contributing to deforestation. EDIT - nevermind Also, responses and QRTs to Seven Seas’ tweet suggests that other non-Amazon retailers are experiencing stock issues. Some have even asked Amazon support about these “environmental decisions” but apparently, support told them that they have no idea what 7S is talking about. While I would always encourage people to buy from places other than Amazon due to their total disregard of the condition of the products that they ship, sending books and irregularly shaped objects in the same unpadded plastic bag, almost always resulting in damage to the books, it's at least a major retailer that generally keeps a variety of titles in stock, so this is none the less concerning.

Oh thank goodness it's not censorship, sounds like a digital option needs to be whipped up for Europe to keep business running over there.

The article says "Amazon in Europe has also ceased purchasing from other companies in Seven Seas' region right now" so no, not just Seven Seas. |

Don't think that law is the cause of this, it is specifically for commodities and you usually don't include books in that, from the linked article;

"Environmental" reasons. You mean...? Paper. And yet schools reprint school book yearly and make people going to school, college and university pay like $100-$300 for these books instead of making PDF versions of them and switching to using technology for schooling.
...but yes... blame manga and light novels which gets resold through collectors and kept for like 20-30 years not 1-2 years due to being "out of date". (source: my business law book was trash after a year and was like 600 pages. I'm pretty sure its still sitting at the thrift store I dumped it to get rid of it.) I suppose everyone going to University over there aren't getting any textbooks either, cause I would be having a freaking fit over this. Idiots also don't know that like around 60% of paper comes from recycled product so it has nothing to do with deforestation at all... I also love how these EU countries want to enforce laws on other countries when a great chunk of them deforested their own lands to build ships/tools for war, enslavement, and colonization...but other countries can do it for farming? This has always been a BS topic for me. If you have a problem with the amount of trees, EUROPE, how about reclaiming some of your farmlands that was once forest and replanting trees, then. A bit hypocritical when they've already deforested their lands but now telling others that they can't do it. |

That is probably the most likely reason. I suppose it's possible that Amazon wants to push towards more digital, but this scenario seems a little too specific to not be related to something from the EU. |

Thank god I have switched to book depository for a long time now.
I always had the feeling that when it comes to English books Amazon Germany and Thalia were super unreliable. Never knew if I would ever actually get the books I ordered. |
