This is the 4th time in the year that the Top 30 is made up of Switch games. Just a few days ago Falcom published a list of software sold throught the year and it was 22 million for the Switch and 3 million for PS4/5. Obviously the PS5 has been on the market for just one year and the PS4 is going to be discontinued soon, but still the amount of software sold for Sony's consoles are very low. The Switch, on the other hand, is entering it's 5th year and its sales are shrinking but I think titles like Splatoon 3 and the sequel for Breath of the Wild can boost some sales.
With the small amount of PS5's in Japan I wonder if some developer's will held back some titles until there's a bigger userbase. Titles like FFXVI and Elden Ring will probably sell better in the West than in Japan anyway, but there are many Japanese-exclusive developers that have been selling less games than in previous years.

Honestly, I think that Nintendo definitely deserved it. They were able to cope fast during the Pandemic, changed their business model, added more indie software games into their arsenal, and used their trademark nostalgia to attract old and new audiences. Smile They were able to time everything right so far too.

But about the PS5, it may be possible... cause of the Unreal Engine 5. Shocked

I am somewhat worried that with the new generation of consoles the Switch will no longer receive the same developer support as previous years. It's true that compared to the PS5 and Xbox the Switch is seriously lagging behind in terms of hardware, but there have been some impressive ports and companies like Capcom, Konami and Atlus had made some successful games for the console. I don't think we'll see announcement for the Switch's successor next year, especially with the chip shortage happening, but at least it has to be equal or a bit more powerful than a PS4 or Xbox One to facilitate the development of modern games.

Actually, that's what I'm worried about too. Like honestly, after Switch, all I can think about is 'what's next?' Nintendo became successful due to its hybrid design console but I think right now, it's the battle of the software now. If Switch could be innovated further (I don't know, handle the Engine 5 lol), they could still hold their spot as top console.

I gotta say though, I'm not surprised with the Platinum games listed! But really -- Final Fantasy XIV? Lol. Not Platinum!? I mean, how? Anime hyper And really, Back 4 Blood in Gold!? again, h o w? Anime hyper

Square treats the people who download FF XIV for free better than they treat the people who actually pay for the game on Steam. I was put off immediately from the game once I saw that because I had the audacity to pay for the base game I wasn't given a free subscription to play through Heavensward like free players are given.
