He's probably not permitted to announce it yet but its only a matter of time. Given its popularity and how well the recent film has done financially they'll be formally announcing this in Spring to begin broadcasting in Autumn.

Due ot its popularity, I'd believe this would be a given.

I hate how Japanese production companies have switched to this model of making anime. They will test the waters with a single season, but whenever the show does well it takes 'years' after the first season before viewers get subsequent seasons. We've seen this with Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer, One Punch, and quite possibly even Dragonball Super.

I thought the movie added a new scene for the credits ala Marvel to connect with the second season (although there is still one huge arc before Yuta appears for the first time in the main series),

But studios fill their schedules a minimum of 1.5 years in advance. If S1 of show X is popular and aired between Fall 2021, the absolute quickest they can squeeze the production in for the next season would make the air time for next season to be Summer 2023. Most studios fill their schedule 2 to 3 years in advance.

They have to make the show, mind you. Another season does not just pop out from the ground. This is why split cour is so common because production is so tight already that even if two cours were greenlit by the committee, staff will try to squeeze a bit of break between the two cours.

The only way to have shorter breaks is to "predict" that first season is going to do well and have S2 be scheduled before S1 is even finished or even in production, which defeats the purpose of breaking up into seasons in the first place.

From an investor's perspective, the people who ultimately funds each season thus the people make or break the show, if the first season cannot prove itself then why would invest in the second season? When the revenue actually comes in, that is when the next season is greenlit, at least internally. Public announcements usually come much later.

I don't doubt JJK is getting another season. But if the investors refuse to finalize the financial side of things until the money actually reaches their pocket, the president literally cannot say anything definitive.

JJK is quite an outlier at this point because anyone, even casual fans, can probably tell this show is immensely popular thus it would be financially stupid to not greenlight the next season. But for most shows where the profit margin is razor thin, the investors take no chances and will need absolute assurance of their investment. The president is just covering his behind by not jumping the gun. If there is one thing you know for sure, in Japan, they love a risk-free decision by sticking to rules.

But this way they give us better animation and we don't have filler arcs that could destroy the story of the manga [Naturo, Bleach...]

Probably a no-brainer at this point, but MAPPA have enough on their plate at this point.

They'll make it. To make a 2nd season is equal to printing money given the popularity.

And I look forward to the next season.

Rather than with the if or when, I'm actually more concerned with the how, considering the story structure of the source material after where the last season left off.

So you do one season a year to stay ahead of material and maintain production quality. My Hero Academia has perfected this model.
