I'm so happy that the anime is doing the light novel justice!!!

like mt, this is a great adaptation, though in this case i am a humble manga reader.
iirc when the director worked in bento he was part of david production, now I wonder if he worked in jojo too. the only complain i have is that the show lacks naiwa, was that a manga thing only? because the naiwa scene was my favorite scene of the whole manga. |

The naiwa is also apart of the light novel, and its actually still there in the anime, its just being translated in the subs as something else. |

Pretty well up to date with the web novel.
Is the LN pretty much following along? as the anime is apparently so far. |

On the spider side mostly. On the human side, I believe it's skipped their arrival and jumped to the school portion |

I wasn’t planning on watching this but after watching the first 10 minutes that CR uploaded, I decided to give the first episode a go.
It was surprisingly good. I don’t really watch a lot of Isekai anime and so I was pleasantly surprised by this. I’ve added the novels to my plan-to-read list too as I’ve heard good things about them. Aoi Yūki is a great VA and I’m loving her performance so far. I found her funnier in the second episode where she kept saying “my home” in English. That was hilarious! Another thing I liked was Kumoko’s facial expressions. She has a great range of facial expressions! Never thought I would call a spider cute. I despise both the OP and especially hate the ED song. I’m sorry but the ED song is painful to listen to. Not sure if it’s just me who dislikes the ED song... Will be skipping both the OP and ED. |

The ED I understand as its exceptionally fast paced (though I personnaly like it) but i'm surprised about the OP. I think I might get the single. |

I was interested to see them skip mostly to the end of volume 1 of the book through episode 2. Admitedly its the most slow paced of all the content so I dont hate it. Just a shame to loose the learning about sneaking and hunting and the basilisk fight. The snake was great. I particularly liked how they showed how destructive it was in enclosed spaces which was a small detail in the book.
What did you guys think of her web designs. It seemed more architectural yet less purposeful in design. But made for a good comedy sketch. Im still interested to see if anyone else will be self narrating since that was how all of the stories where told in the books. |

I only read about 20 chapters of the manga before putting it down. I found the spoiler[extra two personalities (and there is apparently a 3rd based on the promo art)] a bit too much and got bored of the constant spoiler["I'm about to die, oh, I leveled up and healed. Oh no, now I'm about to die, oh, I leveled up and healed"] as fights went on.
The manga didn't feature any of the other students from what I remember, so I had to guess about the time frame, spoiler[I figured there was a time gap between Kumoko and the other kids considering they were all grown up] and confirmed it afterwards, but missed the bit about the earth dragon connection. Anyway, it's good so far, but I'm hoping that since it sounds like it's sticking closer to the LNs, it will be more enjoyable and so I'll end up sticking with it this time. |

Just a quick heads up, thats not gonna change. It might be easier to watch animated though. |

Agreed on both points. Also, the spoiler["I leveled up and healed"] thing is actually a plot point, though it may take a long time to see how it is. As for the "mostly skipping to the end of the first novel" thing, if the series is still pacing like that at the end of episode 3 then I'll bring that up in the review because that would significantly alter where the end of the series is going to fall. |

It's great to have you doing these reviews, Key.
I'm coming to the franchise blind, other than reading your first three light novel reviews. I realised that I was going to either 1) read the novels or watch the anime one day; and 2) I was beginning to learn too much - so I stopped at that point. I have an inkling of what Kumoko might become and what splits the two story lines. Anyway, you wrote the light novel reviews so you'll know how far off I am. Highlight so far for me is definitely Aoi Yuki's vocal pyrotechnics. She's my favourite seiyuu of recent times and this effort brings to mind Kotono Mitsuishi's formidable delivery in Excel Saga. Not only that, the ED song brings to mind another Kotono Mitsuishi classic, her singing in the ED of Dragon Half, though in a completely different style (and very clearly a product of the 90s - I wonder if "Ganbare! Kumoko-san no Theme" will sound as dated in 28 years). So, yeah, I'm not one of those who found Aoi Yuki irritating. The main character is a treat and I'm looking forward to where this is going. |

Me, neither, but then I'm biased being one of her fans. Lately Aoi has been using her lower vocal range for characters like Boogiepop and the cursed sword in the second installment of Thunderbolt Fantasy. Her voice for Kumuko is higher pitched and closer to her performance as Murasaki-chan in Kure-nai back in 2008. Over on AnimeSuki we've had a discussion about the sizes of the non-human characters. Someone who has read the novels said Kumoko is about the size of a "large dog." If that's the case, the snake must be larger than any known species. As an anime-only viewer, I was imagining the characters are about the same size as we observe in the natural world. Instead it seems like Kumuko is closer in size to the giant spiders I fight in Dragon Age. |
