It's a piece titled "Summer," and I've heard it play on his official website. (You can try at joehisaishi.com, but you'd have to exit and reload the site if it doesn't give it to you the first time. If you get it, it'll be playing with a clip from Howl's Moving Castle.) I'm certain I've heard it before, but I don't know where.
Sorry for having so little info to go on, but it's something I'd like to know. |

from digging around on the website it looks like it's from "Kokujiro's Summer" which appears to be a live action film. So if you've seen that, that would be why it's familiar...

Weird, it seems my post was deleted. Must have been the forum burp earlier.
"Summer" is the theme from the wonderful Takeshi Kitano film Kikujiro, which I'd recommend to anyone. Just like with Hayao Miyazaki, Hisaishi has had a long professional relationship with Kitano, and has scored the music for many of his films. But the music from Kikujiro remains my favorite from the collaboration of these two exceptionally talented people. You can check out a number of wonderful Hisaishi compositions for Takeshi Kitano films on this CD. It's great music. |

I finally found out why that song sounded familiar when I heard it on the website. Another song from the Kikujiro soundtrack (called "Riverside," and sounding similar to "Summer") is used in the YTMND series of "No Class" fad pages.
