I have one in my temporary house, and I really love how convenient it is. A home console you can take with you on the go, all powered by a tablet... who would have thought? To me, what makes the Nintendo Switch so great are the games, and Super Mario Odyssey happens to be one of my favorites.

In my opinion, Nintendo was trying to do the things they did wrong with Wii U right with Switch - and quite frankly succeeded. Wii U's concept was unique but confusing, Switch's concept is unique yet simple. Wii U had a controller that was basically a tablet that didn't work outside of the living room. Switch is a tablet that you can take anywhere (like an iPhone or iPad) with detachable controllers. They really tried to do everything different, and they did a fantastic job.

But the question remains, will it be good enough to hold off the rumored next generation iPod touch if these rumors are true?

I would assume so given people swore up and down years ago that mobile games including the ones on the iPod were going to sink console games....and it didn't happen.

Of course console games haven't been sunk, but that's largely thanks to Sony and Microsoft. Nintendo had a really rough time, especially due to the 3DS and Wii U. Not only were sales of the 3DS disappointing thanks to the advent of the iPhone, but the Wii U was a miserable failure for Nintendo.

The 3ds sold poorly out of the gate due to poor pricing and issues with its form factor. It is currently the 11th highest selling console/handheld of all time

The WiiU sold poorly due to abysmal marketing and being not much more than a slightly improved Wii with an experimental gamepad

It had nothing to do with iPhones.

Do you honestly believe any iPhone or iPad affects the console market that drastically?

I meant to say the strictly handheld gaming market. I misspoke.

I also agree on your point that the Wii U sold poorly due to it being nothing more than an improved Wii, which is what I mentioned in a previous post. A factor I kind of forgot to mention was the launch titles weren’t that great. Sure, New Super Mario Bros. U is a good addition to the NSMB series, but is it really a title that will want people to get a Wii U?

Compare that to Switch, right from the get go the marketing showed what the console was capable of... being a home console you can take anywhere. Not to mention launch titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild really got the console selling.
