Ok, so let me see if I have this straight: The anime that was based on a manga is getting a manga based on the film about the anime that was based on the manga ...
My head hurts. |

Well it's mostly - manga gets anime series and live-action film adaptation. It's successful, and by far the most liked character is this one dude. Then, they make a 'spin-off' where he's the protag as an anime film - which they then adapt as a manga, ending the full circle.

Let me introduce you to a little gem called Street Fighter: The Movie Game... |

Wasn't expecting this at all. Hopefully SevenSeas licenses this, as I'm unsure what the chances of the movie getting picked up are.
I'm also hoping the other Orange manga spinoff gets licensed too... |

So a manga got a live-action movie and an anime adaptation, which then got an anime movie spinoff which then is getting a manga adaptation... It's a full circle.
Seems that Orange is rather popular, good for it. I also really liked Suwa and I hope he gets a happy ending in the film. |

Depending on how long this adaptation ends up being, grouping this and the previous spinoff manga together for a retail book release seems like a logical choice (in both Japan and other potential territories). Personally, the original Orange manga had a much bigger impact on me than the anime version did. I don't know how much of that is due to all of the story elements being new to me in the manga or if the anime was hurt a bit by the pacing, cutting, and quality issues of the adaptation. I'd hope a feature film will have less of these issues, but I still think reading the manga version first would be a safer route for me. Hopefully at the very least Crunchyroll will make it available digitally like they did with the original manga. |
