Look, I'm sorry, but is it absolutely necessary to have King Kong in the Godzilla universe? I didn't like the original vs. Kong...well, that was Japanese campiness, so that might be why.
I just never liked "simply larger animals" as being kaiju. I respect Kong, but...ugh, I am so confused.
I like Gamera and Mothra, since they have unique abilities and stories (not aware of Kong's in-universe backstory).
At least they're not Ebirah.

Why not? It's two legendary monsters squaring off against one another.

Plus King Kong has fought Godzilla in Toho films before.

Yes, because product of war and science = simply larger animal.

@ ZodiacBeast: Deep Sea Gigantism is a thing.
The reason for Kongs size is because he evolved to fight off V.Rexs, at least in the Peter Jackson version and the expanded encyclopedia of Skull Island related to said movie..

Take away Godzilla's atomic breath and his ability to walk upright and that's pretty much on the nose.

I hope this goes the campy route. I'd love to see it do that. And,I think that it would also make the Japanese very happy as well.
