Wouldn't put the ending song among my favorites, but I did like it and did think it fit quite well, especially with the picture of that fabulous cake.

I have to disagree there, I feel there was a few episodes in the late teens and the early twenties that the show would have been much better off without. I thought the show was going great up until that point. I found that it still managed to have a satisfactory ending though.

I have a couple of confessions: 1) I have a mild but more than normal fascination with vampires, especially ones that don't fit the paradigm, and 2) I get teary eyed at the ending theme (when the slice of cake is offered); does anyone else like the song for the ending?

Karin sparked my interest specifically because of the vampire element. I tend to seek out anime and films about vampires and it is especially nice (unlike in most American movies) when they are not treated as the villian or the antagonist against some hero character trying to vanquish vampires from the world. Our blood-sucking counterparts have normal lives to lead; they fall in love, have jobs, go to school, etc too. I always felt sorry for poor vampires being targeted by humanity so much. So Karin - The Anime is refreshing in that it's an everyday romance story where the main character just happens to be a bit different from everyone else.

I discovered Karin while I was getting into Tsukuyomi ~ Moon Phase (also a vampire anime) and noticed the group that was fansubbing it was also translating the manga for Karin before it got picked up by Tokyopop. Karin does also have the theme where an individual is trying to rid the world of teh "evil vampires", but it's more of a side story and the "hero" character is actually the main villian in the series (hoping that I didn't spoil anything as this should be quite evident assuming everyone has at least seen everything past the introduction of Winner-kun).

I agree with you Successful_Troll about some of the later episodes being better off left out. It seems like a failed attempt to bring in some romantic seriousness. They should've tried to stay consistent and kept the show full of fun, the dramatic focus on Anju's awakening was a bit out there and I had a bad feeling about it.

Someone else in another thread was also complaining about how the series took such a serious turn in the later stages, but I didn't see that. While it's always fun, from the beginning it's a more serious series that has comedic relief rather than the other way around, especially before Winner shows up. I'll agree that the episode-long flashback about Elda's past (Karin's grandmother, for those who haven't gotten to the mid-teens yet on episode count) was a bit much, but it still had story relevance and beyond that the storytelling flowed smoothly.

The part with Elda didn't bother me that much, it was mostly the parts with Anju.spoiler[The episode where she got into a huge argument with Karin seemed pretty pointless to me. Also the part where Maki got blown off by Winner, and then almost snapped seemed really out of place. I would have liked it if they had left the part about Elda's prior relationship in to use for some drama between Karin and Kenta, but taken out pretty much anything involving Winner's grandfather. He was kind of like a gnat in the series. Not really dangerous, but he kept getting in the way of anything interesting and it got really irritating.]

I would LOVE it if ADV Films were to license KARIN.
Some voice actresses that I would suggest are :

Kira Vincent-Davis as Karin

Monica Rial as Anju

Any suggestions as to the other characters?

I suppose it was an allright show, but they REALLY skimped on the production values. Compared to all the awsomeness airing that very same season, it just really falls flat. Blood+ is the best vampire-ish anime in years, and even if you rather watch something more comedic, there's just better shows out there.

HOWEVER, I did actually watch the whole thing, so I can't say it was bad, just rather forgettable.

My pick for Anju's VA in the dub, if it's licensed by ADV is Sasha Paysinger. She did the voice of Hatoko from Angelic Layer.

I'd also like to see Coleen Clinkenbeard as Karin's mom, but she usually does Funimation titles.

Put me in under people who enjoyed the series. Not the best series I've ever seen, but I thought it managed the combination of comedy, dark fantasy, drama, cuteness and romance quite nicely. I'm definitely buying it when it gets released.

I love the ending song/sequence. So cute & the song's catchy too.

And yes, Karin's breasts are too big for her character type. The sad thing is I'm sure we've all seen much worse.

That's exactly what I was thinking, too. Anju has a soft-spoken voice, and the ideal VA for her would be for someone that naturally has a soft speaking voice. Sasha would be a perfect fit for the character. My second choice would be Tiffany Salinas (Yumeria).

Colleen did work for ADV before; she played Nurse Yuuki in Diamond Daydreams. I can picture her as Karin's mom, but I think that Marcy Rae would be a slightly better choice, given the European background of the Maaka family (and the fact that she can deliver a fairly believable accent - listen to her performance as Ecaterina in Godannar).

This is a long shot, but should either ADV or FUNi acquire Karin, I was thinking about the possibility of Carrie Savage playing Karin Maaka. Now that Carrie has indeed moved back to Texas, there's a good possibility that she could work on a future ADV title. (She's listed as playing Haruka in FUNi's KimiNozo/Rumbling Hearts.)

Honestly the whole reason why I kept watching the series was because of the nosebleeds. While they may not have been comical aftera while in and of itself I just find the idea of a female doing something like that ironic considering it's usually a male problem. The way they over dramatized it with the flowers and her catch phrase was great.

That being said the soft porn Opening sequence did not help though. The actual song was pretty good though. Then again I'm a sucker for fast paced Jpop even if it is so whiny it'd induce bleeding ears on anyone else in my family.

It did get a bit frustrating seeing episode after episode where Usui's mom is just completely wiped out when all it would take would be a bit from Karin (who really needed to bite some people anyways). Overall though it managed to redeem itself in the almost too perfect ending during episode 24. After getting really frustrating to watch, seeing that kind of conclusion was a relief.

I never really was affected by the animation. I kind of liked the character designs (although the manga looks better IMO) and the backgrounds were accpetable...unlike the recent crappiness in XXXholic -_-

I've seen arguments on whether her breast size changed during the series, and a lot of people think it actually increased...

I'm kind of indifferent to breast size in anime; they all seem to either be flat as a board or G cups, so it's all the same to me...

I was also thinking of Carrie Savage as a good VA for Karin-chan. As for the perfect VA pair to do Karin and Kenta; that without a doubt would have to be Kari Wahlgren and Johnny Yong Bosch. They've been in several Geneon titles together but I don't think the've played a romantic couple before. Surprised

Edit (for your convenience):
Johnny Yong Bosch: Kiba from Wolf's Rain and Klaus from Last Exile
Kari Wahlgren: Pacifica from Scrapped Princess and Fuu from Samurai Champloo
