Hello all, this post's main purpose was to hopefully link me to another post of good j-rock bands, good j metal bands.
The music i like currently is around Asian Kung-fu generation, and Cooljoke. English music is stuff like Death, megadeth, ironmaiden. if anyone could help me find out a source for good j-rock, it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou. -BAkABAKABAKABAKA- |

Some good Japanese metal bands are Animetal, Galneryus, and X-Japan of course. Animetal plays anime songs and Galneyrus is just an awesome metal band whose guitarist was in Animetal I think.

Gackt's brilliant, but if you only like rock you'd still have to tolerate his non-rock stuff since all but his latest album have all kinds of other styles on the CD (Which is partly why I love him, but I suppose would be a disadvantage if you're only into one type of music...)
Dir en grey are the best known band with a much heavier rock sound, and that's because they're good, but I'm not a huge fan of their sound so I can't really help you with them more than that. |

Larc is a good group but there is also people like Liv, Nicotine, and even though Dragon Ash is hip-hop oriented, their music is pretty much rock.

There's also Malice Mizer, Janne D'Arc, Pierrot, Luna:Sea, and Plastic Tree.
I quite like what I've heard from the band Fake so far. Ellegarden is a really good indie band that is slowly gaining in popularity. These last two I've named have a similar sound to Asian Kung-Fu's so I figure you'll probably like them. I've also always loved Do As Infinity. Some people will say they're more pop, but they've had some good rockish songs too. Then there's always good ol' Orange Range. |

If you like metal, what you want to look for is X-Japan, Kuroyume, D'espairs Ray, 12012. The first two broke up years ago, the second two are relitivly new bands. Oh, and for metal with a Japanesesque twist, I reccomend Onmyouza.
Other all-around good J-rock suggestions: La'cryma Christi, Pierrot, Kagrra, Dir en Grey, Duel Jewel, Luna Sea and all of it's folllowings, Buck-Tick, B'z. |

Try Dir en Grey. They've been called HIM meet Cradle of Filth. You can listen to the soft slow stuff and get HIM sounding stuff, or listen to their hard stuff and get some of the best heavy metal/industrial from Japan.

Check this site out:
http://www.rockofjapan.com/ It has a pretty extensive list of lesser known j-rock bands (plus some of the more popular ones) along with U.S. show updates, interviews, album reviews, etc....etc. Matter of fact, this is where I first heard about the 2nd Noodles U.S. Tour... |

I'd reccommend Balzac. They're a japanese punk band and they havenb
t showed up in any anime soundtracks but they are no doubt one of the most awesome bands I've heard japanese or otherwise. If you have a thing for The Misfits, you'll definately love these guys. |

No one mentioned onmyouza, they're one of my favorite bands. It's basically powermetal, with a female vocalist (and the male bassist sings some as well), and lyrics connected to traditional Japanese beliefs in spirits (and of course also those who work/ed as exorcists - onmyouji).
I'm also a big fan of the gazettE (or just 'gazette'). They are sometimes referred to as being a slightly more upbeat and 'friendlier' Dir en grey. For a more gothic sound, try BLOOD (though they're taking a break, there is still some good music there). |

You might find some good bands if you search the IUMA site and Muzie, which both host legal MP3s from unsigned or indie Japanese bands.
My personal faves: Vio System Divide, Blood Stain Child, Bold Fat Missile, Onmyouza, Defiled, Mad Capsule Markets (remember them?), Sigh, Shadow (they might have broken up), Saeko (okay, she's recording with a European band), Envy, Deaflock, Dead Claw and Outrage. Seek, and ye shall find. |

This is just me but i'm surprised the pillows haven't been mentioned. Also I'd recommend UVERworld, High and Mighty Colour as well as Orange Range. Sorry can't put any information on these bands since i'm doing this during my 2nd period class so i'll update this later.
