I agree, there's something magical and invigorating about Sakamoto's "Hempisphere." I'm not as big a fan of "Gravity" though. Sakamoto's "Hotchpotch" album was definitely worth every penny, so I'm probably be getting her new one as well.

Yeesh, really? I swear it sounds like Kotoko. Maybe I'm just losing my mind.

Consider my comment further proof that the only thing you get out of writing about a show you haven't seen is an opportunity to embarrass yourself.

Mmmm, Maaya Sakamoto. I adore Yoko Kanno, she's probably one of my favorite people on earth, but I agree that trying new things will be good for Sakamoto. I'll definitely be picking up Nikopachi now that's it's out here in the US, and her new one as well when it finally drops.
When she first announced she was making a new album without Kanno, some people immediate took it to mean they'd had a falling-out. I doubt that, though. From interviews, Kanno sounds very cute and silly. I can't imagine anyone *not* getting along with her. I still love that con panel where Shinichiro Watanabe said Kanno likes to roll around on the floor and make strange noises. ^_^

Considering that the character of Ed in Cowboy Bebop was apparently based on her, that somehow doesn't suprise me.

Yeah, radiance is Kawada Mami, not Kotoko. They're both members of I've, a pretty (in)famous electronica production team (more a studio than a "group" at this point) that's known for their eroge offerings. Mami also did the first opening theme for Shakugan no Shana and worked together with Kotoko on the remake of the Baldr Force theme for the upcoming OAV, among other things.
In addition, another correction: Kotoko's -hane- album that Geneon is publishing in the States does not have any of her anime- or game-related songs (including the aforementioned chi ni kaeru ~on the earth~). It was her major label debut CD, and as such had a slew of originals. While it's still not a bad album, I wouldn't buy it expecting to find familiar songs (unless you've heard the album before).

Isn't 'Another Grey Day in the Big Blue World' on 'Easy Listening' and not 'Nikopachi', or have they changed the tracks for the US release?

Yes, sorry if that was unclear.

Did you hear Maaya Sakamoto in concert when she hit a couple of venues in the states last year? I'm a HUGE fan of her singing and never really noticed where she fell flat in spots... well, until I heard her live in Dallas.... because she has gotten just that good recently. When she was singing some of the best of Kanno's Escaflowne songs it was really amazing to hear just how much more expression and range she has now opposed to when she was 16 years old.
