Lesbianism, the whole Utena trying to be a prince thing. Like I said, they're not very open minded :O Pretty much same reason Gravitation is based, for the yaoi (only know this because of the girls at my school :O)

I'd say the effort would be better spent on something like Chrono Crusade than Gravitation though.

We should really get back to the topic of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Thinking about the characters, Itsuki, while in the background while most of the zaniness takes place in the show, is clearly the most useful when it comes to imparting information, or at least theories. He seems to be more open to sharing information with Kyon about the Organization's existance and goals, as well as his insights into Haruhi from time to time than any of the other characters. Mikuru's apparently forbidden from releasing any "classified information" and nothing Yuki says makes much sense to Kyon. Itsuki, meanwhile, tries to simplify things the best he can. I only wish we knew more about this guy - is his jolly exterior a front for borderline sinister manipulations? Most of his manipulations have been for good so far, but who knows. Maybe it ISN'T the quiet ones you have to worry about.

I can understand Bible Black as its porn, but I think the rest at least deserve discussion, particularly EVa. And why on earth would Utena be banned?

The moderators claim that they don't immediately ban anything they find offensive, and the people the use the forums have to have heated fights that involve name-calling and typing in caps with red letters and giant fonts from both sides, religious zealots and nonreligious people defending the series. Utena and Evangelion both fall into this scenario, but for most series the people running the site just slap a "no-no!" sticker on them because they don't like them. A search for Earthian, Yami No Matsuei, Fake, and Bible Black in only the thread title turn up no results. Gravitation gets a single five-post thread. I wonder why Utena is the only shoujo-ai anime on this list. It must be lonely.

This is getting really off-topic. We should make another thread for this if we want to continue discussing this.

EDIT:

And feminism. Some religious sects of Christianity feel threatened by feminism, for whatever sexist reason.

Because of its evil, evil lesbian elements. Remember, what passes for Christianity in the U.S. (and particularly the evangelical fundamentalists) is largely convinced that homosexuality will land you in Hell. Notice the preponderance of yaoi elements in the list.

BTW, I am rather surprised not to see Earth Girl Arjuna on that list, as well as a number of other anime with strongly non-Christian elements (Kamichu!, for instance). In fact, there are a number of anime I could mention that are conspicuously absent. I suspect that this may rather be due to deliberate ignorance ("Lalala! I can't hear Teh Evil. Lalala! I can't see Teh Evil.") than to any other reason.

In fact, I'm also fairly surprised that SHnY didn't automatically get on that list.

Nothing more to it than that, no matter how you look at it. If they really wished to be enlightened, they would allow discussion, period.

Don't worry abunai, I'm sure SHnY will make it onto the list as soon as it starts airing here in the US Rolling Eyes

EDIT: I'm bad at acronyms apparently

This is the reason why SHnY will get blacklisted

Haruhi and Mikuru hotness Razz

But in all seriousness, if they put every thing that's evil on that list, even for the right/wrong reasons, it still doesn't make it justified...

But then again, life doesn't make sense the first time through, just like SHnY Razz Wink

It seems that the banned list is because said titles almost always result in flame wars rather than because of their actual content.

Utena hasn't been reviewed, but Kannazuki no Miko has been and it got an 8/10. Neon Genesis Evangelion also got an 8/10. Ninja Scroll, which got a wonderful 0/10 has not been banned. Berserk, which has plenty to be blasted for got a 7/10, and has not been banned.

EDIT: Ah! My Goddess seems like prime material for lambasting on theological grounds, but it only got a 3/10 for "bad religion" and was rated 7/10 overall. Love Hina and Mai HiME both have fanservice as bad or worse than TMoHS but haven't been banned and got decent ratings.

As long as TMoHS doesn't cause frequent flamewars, it won't get banned.

Me too. In the CAA's Haruhi thread, they fixate on the fanservice in the series, seeming to more or less ignore Haruhi's god-like powers. I'm no expert, but shouldn't Haruhi's powers be considered utterly blasphemous in the context of christianity?

It would not be wrong to say yes. Though I can't see why they would be avoiding those issues, since it would be something to warn people about.

Yay, Haurhi has reclaimed the top spot on the top 10, now to see how long it'll stay (probably only today >_>).... I still think the part with the Gun*** in episode 11/13 is funny :O

It was an amazing anime. I was also somewhat confusining. It was like some of the episodes were flashbacks or something. When Koizumi came into the show I thought I had missed something. Too bad it was only 14 episodes. I would have enjoyed watching more.

The episodes were out of chronological order, if you go to the encyclopedia and check the titles it also lists the order that they are chronologically. A lot of people think it's more interesting in the aired order because of how the episodes are. Since you just finished it, you might want to rewatch maybe once or twice, there's a lot of stuff that you really can't pick out with one watch, unless you read everything in this thread -_-.
