It was pretty much inevitable that this was going to happen.
With the internet it's much easier to get news on figurines or series compared to waiting to read about something that's already a month old. I used to read Wizard myself but the past couple years it kind of lost its charm. |

http://www.comicsbeat.com/2011/01/24/former-wizard-employee-paints-grim-picture/ A lot of info is starting to come out about the situation- it seems rumours lately of Wizard's sketchy treatment of employees and general disorganization had a lot to do with things. Not super surprised by the news (they mostly run Cons nowadays), though enjoyed different runs on the magazines in the past [ToyFare's Twisted Mego Theatre was great stuff].

Rob Bricken (of Astro Toy fame) had a few words to say about this over at his Topless Robot site. Worth a read to get another perspective on it.

I'm surprised it ran for this long. I remember collecting the early issues, and one of the reason I got into manga/anime, it had an ashcan/mini comic of ghost in the shell, I was immediately converted
to anime/manga. Brings back some memories. |

I didn't know Toyfare was still being printed!
I haven't seen an issue in 10 years. I first got introduced to Anime/Manga by reading Wizard magazine. In 1994 Wizard ran an article where comic book writers, creators and artists talked about different Anime/Manga they liked and the influences they got from them! I started reading Manga after that (what little I could get at the time)! |

I'm amazed that they lasted this long. With online comic sites getting news immediately, I can understand why they shut down the print version. Plus it seems they've made an enemy of Marvel(read the link paploo provided).
I remember back in the mid-90's when they came bagged and with a trading card or poster each issue. I stopped reading them around 98 and started reading them recently. It's weird how much the magazine has shrunken over time. I've tried reading some of the recent issues, but it's just horrible compared to what they used to be. |

The reason for this is the circulation or the distribution of the magazine becomes more lax than before. This magazine for toys showed the best collections of toys in the world. My son had this once and I got fascinated with the contents of it. super bowl 2011 live stream Toy Last edited by Brannen75 on Mon Jan 31, 2011 5:35 am; edited 1 time in total |

I picked up some recenty issues after not having got it for ages, and liked a lot of what I read, but was surprised how small it had gotten. It was still pretty easy to find though... it's had a lot of great writers over the years [both Lea Hernandez and Carl Horn wrote their original manga column, which started back in 1994, and lead to Anime Insider, which Zac and lots of other anime-related journalist/writers worked for], so sad to see it go in a way. |
