They are taking the spoilers for outside Japan very seriously on some web sites.

Nintendo & Pokemon are asking Pokemon fans not to post the newest Pokemon or they could take legal action under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.

I remember Serebii posting this when he first got the email. OK, I get not wanting things like links to ROMs, gameplay footage, and to an extent screen shots, but having people take down the sprites is a little much. It's not even the dynamic sprites, it's the static ones that got taken down. I'm surprised they didn't request Serebii's walkthrough to be taken down since I think that's a bigger deal than just screen shots. In the end, though, I'm not upset since Nintendo has the right to do it, but I find odd that they'd ask these fansites to take down pictures of the game, but when leaked CoroCoro scans, Game Freak workers leaking top secret information to these very same fan sites and episodes of Pokemon Sunday were all over the net, they didn't say anything. Hell, there was a guy who had all 156 new sprites and the typings that he got from his GF insider and was posting fan art on twitter, but he apparently never got a C&D. Where were you on that one Nintendo?

That's what makes me slightly annoyed. Had Nintendo been consistent from the beginning, I wouldn't really have a problem with it, but why start asking people to take stuff down now? If anything I'd think being able to see some new Pokemon would fuel the craze, not damper it.

Oh well, doesn't really matter to me. I'm done with the Pokemon games anyway. Doing the same thing over and over gets pretty freaking old. I respect Nintendo for trying to make a franchise fresh again, but I'll go with my original 151 any day.

A few people were saying the letters might be bogus; was that true or not?

I'm pretty sure they were real or else Serebii wouldn't of put this post on his front page:
Serebii's Front Page wrote:
I have just received notification from Nintendo regarding the Pokémon Black & White games. They have requested that I no longer post images about the games claiming they violate intellectual property. As such, for the time being I have had to remove all images related to the games. Our section will still be massively indepth and I'll continue to cover the games where possible and provide an alternative to the images as and when we can. While we have been told we can post images as per fair use, there have been numerous contradictory statements from various official people so I need to make sure what I can do before I post images. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused during our Black & White coverage.

He's also made several comments in his walkthrough about how his lawyer was in contact with Nintendo's lawyer to see if they'd loosen up on the pictures. I'm sure he looked deep into this to make sure it wasn't a hoax.
