I'm sure lots of people have. But if you want to start a discussion, it'd be best to actually discuss Hisaishi's music rather than asking if anyone has just heard it. |
I would just like to ask just how the hell anybody is supposed to intelligently discuss music. At best music can convey emotion -- too often, though, it is just noise. I like the music of Joe Hisaishi; but there is no way in hell that I can cogently explain my reasons for my said affinity. Can someone even explain why A.N.N. even has a music forum? I have been wondering about this now for quite some time.
EDIT: Oh, and by the way -- welcome to the fora, britney89.

It's pretty easy to talk about music, even if you break it down into adjectives and descriptive words. Certainly not everyone is educated in the technicalities and terminology, and thus probably won't be able to go into as a great a depth as a music theory student, but it's just like anything else around these forums. If you like something, you say why you like it.
Example: I like soundtracks by [such and such composer] because [such and such piece for whatever scene in that anime] fits very well with the overall tone. I especially enjoyed [blah blah character's theme], as I think [whatever instrument] really brought out [whatever trait] in his personality.
Just like the writing or artistic elements of an anime, music is pretty much the same thing. You might have to know the name of an instrument or two and maybe be able to reference the scene (or even use Youtube to help you). But I assure you, it is possible to discuss music. Most people just don't put in a lot effort for whatever reason .

That may be true for you and others -- but it is most definitely not the case for me! Case in point: The closer for Princess Mononoke. I love that tune -- just love it! Unfortunately, however, I cannot cogently explain my affinity for it. On a related note, I long ago gave up on trying to predict what kind of music that person X might like.

To britney, since the other thread was closed, give the soundtrack for Dolls a try. It's different than his work for Studio Ghibli.
