Man talk about being cheated. I'm surprised ADV decided to do this. I'm really looking forward to watching it but only 2 episodes a disc? I would like to know the justification for it. Are there gonna be extras that just blow our mind or something? Or was it an expensive series to license and the way to make up for the cost is by doing a 2 ep. count? Having 13 discs for a 26 ep. series is just wrong. I mean most 26 ep. series span only 6. This'll probably backlash on them and they'll have to release a Complete Collection or something. Spending 20-30 bucks on a show and getting only 2 episodes is something that was done back in the day, I thought we were past that. Its a good thing there is a local rental place here in Austin where I can just rent the DVDs for 2 bucks a pop.

Don't get too overworked over this. The 2 eps a DVD count was probably something that was mandated in the licensing agreement. ADV more than likely couldn't do anything about this, and had no choice to put 2 eps a DVD at a lower price (and expect this $17.99 DVD to show up at DeepDiscountDVD.com for at least $10.99 to $12.99)

10.79 for v1
16.79 with box.

Not that bad.

That's kinda funny, considering the Australian company Madman Entertainment licensed this directly from Gonzo (as ADV would have), and they plan to do a 6-7 DVD release. (Madman's release would keep the English translations, possibly different extras, and different box art).

Why must these things always be seen as "Oh, the evil, EVIL JAPANESE LICENSORS!" all the time. Why can't the US companies EVER be seen as the villian in these things? Why can't this release be seen as an experiment, trying to do an oldish tactic of appealing to people's wallet in the short term while in the long run ADV make more profit?

It is all ADV's fault. They have figured out that they can screw us over big time if we want the anime badly enough.

3 eps/disc @ $30/disc --> $10/ep
4 eps/disc @ $30/disc --> $7.5/ep
2 eps/disc @ $18/disc --> $9/ep

In Japan:
2 eps/disc @ ¥5000-6000 (~$50-60) --> ¥2500-3000/disc (~$25-30/ep)

Note:Australian and North America are two different place and there is no where that say ADV license this directly from Gonzo.

There wouldn't be anywhere else they could have gotten it. If Madman didn't get it from ADV, they got it from Gonzo, which would imply ADV had similar dealings. Both markets are VERY similar to each other, expect that Australia is smaller, has less in the way of DVDs and what not, and no TV network.

Because it's the excuse everyone seems to take these days, even though most of the time it turns around and it IS the US companies doing. Besides as Miagi said, it's easier to hit something far away that won't bite back. I'm not saying Japanese licensors aren't responsible for some dirty Anime releases, but they are not the sole cause of everything that goes wrong, which is the impression I get from nearly every fanboy who's willing to jump onto a cross for them.

I don't really think its has to be Gonzo, it could be one of those production that were with Gonzo or a middleman company the has exclusive right to the North American Region.

Everyone seem to take excuse like that because it does happen where an japanese company does mess with the US release.Though, did it ADV mention that its Gonzo who make them do this?(I know it could just be ADV messing with release but did they ever blame it on the japanese company?)

Final note:For people who are interest if I like this kind of release.I really don't like it at all.This kind of release is plain stupid.If it was indent ADV decision.I hope that freaky marketing guy die and burn in hell.

Calm down people. This is an ADVANCED screener copy. None of the insiders (like myself and other priveledged people) got anything more than the disc itself and a promotional flyer. The dub most likely hasn't even been completed yet. They gave us these just to whet our appetite.

And having never seen Gantz before this disc, i'm hooked on it already!

yeah, that could be true, but it could also be the same person. What's the problem with presenting possibilities, especially if it doesn't lean in favour of ADV?

Yeah, but since when have you heard of a Gonzo show getting a Kare Kano treatment, or a Gundam Treatment? ADV haven't said anything at all, except "Two Chipboard boxes, 13 volumes", all of which were made available at AoD. If it's really the fault of the Japanese licensor, whoever he may be, ADV would have made a press release about it or said SOMEWHERE that it wasn't ADV's fault. I mean, whenever a company is on fire about this they usually try to re-direct the blame somehow.

We're not complaining about eventual lack of dub- there is going to be one, heck the cast has already been announced. What the main problem is that there are going to be 13 discs with two episodes each, and ADV haven't even address the problem, assuming they actually see it as a problem.

Eh? ADV sent out a press-release saying that Gantz would be released two episodes a disc. It's not just the advanced screener. The *actual* release is two episodes per disc. Thirteen volumes, two chipboard artboxes.

No man. I'm saying that this is a REALLY advanced copy. I got mine in late December. Gantz isn't due out until March. They fast tracked an advanced copy to us to get the early word out on it.

No one EVER said it would definately be 2 eps per disc. That's just what we recieved on the advanced copy of an INCOMEPLETE package I might add. When I say we got nothing but the disc and the flyer, I mean we got NO cover art, or clamshell. Just a disc in a paper cd sleeve.

Rest assured, it'll be more than just 2 eps per disc. ADV may be called a lot of things, but they've never taken a page from VIZ's handbook.
