Well, Deadman Wonderland is exceptional so far. I watched about half of Casshern Sins on FUNimation Channel and I know it's really slow and boring. Slow shows aren't exactly going to keep stable ratings so CS might turn people off. It has also been dubbed for a while and is no blockbuster in the anime community so I'm not sure if Toonami's audience will like it.
What gets me so riled about FUNimation is that they will keep unknown-potential/unpopular shows very cheap to contract and keep the shows that have crazy DVD sales expensive to contract. If it's already making them so much money, why don't they just contract it at the same price as a lesser known anime? It's why DeMarco couldn't get any popular/requested titles on the air, because FUNimation is probably asking for ridiculous amounts for titles that have already made ridiculous amounts. |

that's cool for those who still watch tv. i can't be the only one who watches dvd/bluray, downloads, and streams netflix, hulu plus, and crunchyroll and hasn't seen a commercial in years unless i'm at someone else's house. hulu plus and nfl season excluded of course. sitting in front of a tv while something is currently airing and watching a 40 minute show in 60 minutes time because of commercials is just a waste of time and very 1995. yes i could dvr and ff past them but the time wasted dvr'ing past comercials adds up and is more wasted time. i've never purchased a single thing in my life because of a commercial.

I'm definitely interested in this series. Though majority of people might not be cause of the editing,so they might skip it and just buy the DVD.
As for Cashern Sins, I liked the series. It's definitely a good series, though it's been so long when it was released on DVD,that there are some people that may not be interested in it, |

Well, if you're not looking towards the future I guess. Its in Funimations best interest for Toonami to succeed, and I think they should be willing to allow some more popular properties to be licensed for less to get Toonami off the ground. Its an investment for the future since if Toonami gets popular again, it boosts the entire American anime industry, and makes Funi more money. |

There's also the licensors to contend with - I doubt they'd be happy with Funimation selling the rights to hot titles for a song.

I have enjoyed the premieres of both series (so glad Casshern finally made it to U.S. TV!) And hope [Adult Swim] and Funimation continue to have a good relationship and we can see more awesome action anime on Toonami! (Ergo Proxy would be nice imo.)

While Deadman Wonderland is fun for the same reason Superjail was fun (just black humor mixed with the drama) Casshern Sins is well...ugh. Which is weird because Tatsunoko has done the darker reimaginings of their superheroes in the past, particuarly Tekkaman Blade. But this was just insufferable. Robots yelling "Casshern!" and bleakness. Just in case you thought he was Polymar.

You and I don't agree on a lot, but I actually agree with this. I get that funimation probably wants to bleed their big hits dry for as much money as possible, but having something on a cable television network means a whole lot more people in the general public now know your stuff exists. Lets face it, having stuff on toonami means that funi's backlog actually has visibility that counts (clearly not many people have or watch their funimation channel). They shouldn't ruin a good thing they have going by trying to sink the ship with a real stinker like Cashern Sins. If people in the niche community of anime fandom don't care for this show, what chance does it have with the general public?
Yes! And while Funi is at it they need to rerelease this title. Why is it that Ergo Proxy is listed as one of their licenses but you can't buy the series anywhere for less than around $100? Did they not renew the license after the rescue or something? |

Good point. If they see that these shows are doing well on TV, they may want to push up the price, which can hurt future projects. There really needs to be a middle ground for best results. |

It's a good series, but i highly doubt it'll be successful for the AS crowd. the biggest example is Blood Plus which did ok,but feel in the demograph compared to Bleach. Claymore, Gunslinger Girl or Strike Witches on the other hand might work, but will have to do a crap load of edits to make claymore & SW AS worthy. Not to mentioned the odds of GG on AS is very slim with the ( little girls turning into assasins ) might cause a massive controversy. and the fanservice of Strike Witches alone would have the FCC and some advocates crying bloody murder. Definitely not worth the hassle, UNLESS somehow CN, or at least it's Adult Swim block gets the same type of broadcasting rights like IFC that showed Basilisk & Witchblade unedited. |
