*NOTE* This is not a list thread, even though there are quite a few of them *ahem*. Just tell me what your favorite opening and ending song is, and list details about what makes it so special.
Example:
My favorite ending would be "My will" from Inuyasha. This ending is wonderful and very upbeat. It makes me want to watch it at the end of every episode. It is just beautiful .
That was a very detailed report. So tell me your favorites.

My favorite start is from Martian Succesor Nadesico. I love the song and it is very nostalgic to me because Nadesico was one of the first anime's I ever saw.
I like Wind from the end of Naruto. It is very calming and every time I hear the song I want to watch Naruto. Also I watch it at the end of all the episodes that it is on(the Naruto series has about 5+ endings and starts because it is such a long series). I guess the point of the end song and begining song is to get you to watch the credits. Most people just skip over them when there on DVD.

Yea I hate list thread like "list 10 anime character you date" and such. Man I have so many favorite anime song yet the main reason isn't about the anime but the song itself.
The fast, high energy song:
GTO - Hitori no Yoru High energy sound from Porno Graffiti and it fit the anime perfectly.
X - eX Dream - High energy rock song and even though I don't think it fit the anime well but it's great none the less.
Initial D - Around the World by Move. Love the vocal and high energy song.
The steady pace emotional song:
Brain Powerd - Power of the Light by Yoko Kano. No vocal need, you can feel your sprited being uplifted when you listen to it.
Serial Experiments Lains - Duvet by BoA. The song is kind of sad, but it's moving and fit the anime perfectly.
Matantei Loki Ragnarok - Gakuen no Tobira Didn't really like the anime but the song is really good.
Best ending is:
Sayuki - Alone by Mirai - It sound endless. Can't describe it but it's really good song.
I try not to go with the obvious choice like GSeed and Evangelion even though thier song are "catchy".

I like the Evangelion intro theme. Though i prefer it with no vocals and done by orchestra or piano. Either way I just like the flow to it. And I give props to anyone who can play it on piano because its hard. I cant play piano but my friend who has played piano since he was a chlid and is very good, has trouble playing it. He says its really hard. And he is a great piano player.

My favorite intro song would probably be "Driver's High" from GTO. The song is a nice and easy going rock tune, which I think, fits Onizuka's personality perfectly.
My favorite ending song is definately "Shiki no Uta" from Samurai Champloo. It has a really cool sounding beat to it, and I also really enjoy the rhythm. I also think it's a great piece to end each episode with, since it's so upbeat.
Other intros and endings I like just for sake of them sounding nice are: Tank! (Bebop), H.T. (Trigun), Yuudachi (Boogiepop Phantom), Tomorrow (Full Metal Panic!), Inner Universe & rise (GitS: SAC), Secret Sorrow (X (TV)), Stray (Wolf's Rain), and there are more, but I'll stop here.

Though one. I guess my current favorite openning is the Paranoia Agent theme. I've been a fan of Susumu Hirasawa since Berserk, and loved the Millenium Actress soundtrack, and as always he made a song thats totally diffrent from his other music yet somehow the same. Its pretty impossible to describe, and I'm not even going to try. I'm also listening to the second FMA openning. And Hemosphere from RahXephon is always on my play list.

Ah, "Cloud Age Symphony." I like that song a lot too. It really fits the context of the show (of what I've seen so far) and it reminds me of a song or piece of music I heard in an RPG once, but I can't remember what. I particularly like the beginning of the song when it starts out with that European (Celtic, is it?) sound and then goes into a kind of techno/dance beat, and then back into a Euro-esque vocal melody.
My friend says the ending song, "Over the Sky," also sounds like something from a video game, and I in fact have it on a compilation anime music CD (which includes various vocal songs only). I'll probably pick up the sountracks before this year is over (along with the DVDs ).

Intro wise my top fav is probably "Hemisphere" from RahXephon because Maaya Sakamoto is one great singer!
My current fav ending would be "River" the 2nd ending to Gundam SEED. It just has a good sound and feel to it, and fits in with what's going on at that point in the series. Another great one would have to be "Tune the Rainbow" the ED to the RahXephon movie. but once again it's dependant on Maaya Sakamoto.

The opening and closing songs of Noir would have to be on top for me. Following close at second are the songs that bookend His and Her circumstances. Why? Well, this music is so much different than anything I had ever listened to, in my former life pre-anime. It's exotic, and much to my initial surprise, I began wanting to buy anime soundtracks. Honorable mention goes to the opening and closing songs of Rahxephon,Excel Saga, and Kino's Journey. An opening song that always brings a smile to my face is Steel Anglel Kurumi's opening number. As Space Butler would say....its so cuuute!

I always liked the Northern Lights opening (Shaman King), sang by Megumi Hayashibara. It's really active, but not looking as a disco music...-_-. It gets you impressed and wondering about how's the chapter gonna be or what's going to happen. Even the times when it changes the velocity of singing...It looks like the whole world is turning around that song, hehe.
Sorry, but I'm not very good explaining songs...

Samurai Champloo's "Battle cry". Nujabes did a great job, considering how much I hate rap and hip-hop. Wouldent say it's my fave, but it's what comes to mind right now.
The opening and closing to RahXephon is great too, I offen find my self starting an episode and watching the intro two or three times (Ok, not that offen, but on ocasion)

Gah. I wish I didn't love so many of these....
To start with, I absolutely "CooRie - Sentimental" from Midori no Hibi. The video fits very well with the song, and the song it self is simply a pleasure to listen to. It's light hearted as well, which is something that really attracts me as well.
Dispite the fact that the anime it's from is pretty trashy, "move - Drivin' Through the Night" is a pretty nice dance beat. And it's wickedly fun to listen to at night (obviously).
"can/goo - Oshieteageru" from Sensei no Ojikan is a very upbeat song, which I absolutely adore. The song just flows pretty wel, and has a very high level of catchiness. The lyrics also are adorible. ^^;
"Motoda Emi - Kimi no Mama De" from Comic Party. The lyrics themselves are very easy for me to relate to, not to mention they flow quite well together. It makes me acctually feel somewhat envious for some reason that I can't even really explain.
For the endings...
"Scoobie Do - Akaneiroga Moerutoki" from Gungrave is a terribly fun song. I can't really explain it very well, but the Violin in the instrumentals is one of the more unique sounds I've heard in this type of song. The beat can only really be discribed as very catchy.
"the Indigo - Under the Blue Sky" from Someday's Dreamers is undenibly, my favorite ending theme to any anime, and also, probably one of my favorite songs in general. It's really wonderful to listen to when you're outside, taking a walk. It's wonderfully upbeat, and flows perfectly. The music video in the first DVD is very amusing as well. I just love it.
---------
Sadly, I probably have more songs that I absolutely love, but can't remember. These are the major ones though, and I love them all. To make me choose a favorite is evil =P.

Ha, ha. I'm very partial to this song as well.
Yes, it has a very catchy beat to it, and I really enjoy the mixture of rock and that little bit of violin that accompanies it.
I think my mother likes it, but the funny thing is she calls it "Flintstones music" because of the rhythm and guitar style. And after listening to it myself, I think I can see why she thinks so.
If you take out the vocals and the violin, the music sounds to me like the "chase music" they used to have in Scooby Doo. And isn't it ironic that the singer has the same name as the character from the show in which his music sounds so similar to ?
Anyway, just for fun, I also noticed that the similarities between the "chase music" and this song are that they both include a lot of running. Scooby and friends running from the monsters and Brandon and Harry running into the sunset.
Ah, yes. This song or Samurai Champloo's "Shiki no Uta" would be my favorite.

It's called "Nowhere," and it's by YUUKA feat. FictionJunction (same group behind the series' OP & ED).

I would have to say
Fruits Basket- Chiisana Inori (ending)
It's such a unique song that always gets through to me.
Evangelion- Cruel Angel's Thesis
Its fast paced and catchy what else do you need?
- Fly me to the Moon
I love Rei's version on an already beautiful song. Its so calming and sweet (especially the lyrics)
Naruto- Wind
This song really stirs a lot of emotions, it's a song of reminisce.
Rizelmine- op. and ending
The most catchy songs I have ever heard, they should use them in a jingle it would certainly stick in everyone's minds.
I My Me Strawberry Eggs- op. theme
I think it depicts the series very well and it tells you straight away that this is an anime that is not full of crossdressing antics but something very sweet and heartwarming.
Steel Angel Kurumi- op. and ending
A very kawaii op. song that reminds me of karaoke. It's very lighthearted.
