| Ai Yori Aoshi (TV) | Weak | At first, I was a little disturbed by Aoi's extreme subservience and lack of personality. However, the story was enough in those first three episodes to keep me watching. Unfortunately, from then on it did a 180 from a nice love story to a harem show(!). I watched the first five episodes, and from eps. 1-3 and 4-5 was like watchng two completely different shows. Needless to say, I'm not inclined to continue. I'm female, so these fanboy pandering type shows do nothing for me. |
| Angelic Layer (TV) | Watching anime is a fun hobby for me, it shouldn't feel like a chore, yet that's what watching an episode and a half of this show felt like. I had no interest in the fighting doll premise, nor the little girl lead, and the comedy left me cold. The show didn't look visually interesting either, with simplistic character designs using few colors and limited animation. I couldn't find one sliver of a reason to keep watching this show, which felt like it was meant for a much younger viewer than myself, so I'm dropping it. (Started and dropped October 2012) |

| Battle Athletes Victory (TV) | I only made it through four episodes, as I could feel my braincells dying. Honestly, this show is just dumb. "Stupid" humor just isn't my thing and the comedy here left me cold. The characters were all one note stereotypes. Some even somewhat offensive, for example, the African girl who always seemed to be dressed in rags, ran around on all fours and made animal noises. Is that supposed to be comedy? Whatever. | Cat Planet Cuties (TV) | Let's get one thing clear, this is a harem show with some action trappings on the side. All your harem cliches are present: The average high school boy with no personality suddenly finds himself cohabitating with a cute alien cat girl, his childhood friend, and a cute classmate. The characters are archetypes. There is copius fanservice here. You have your typical bath scenes and naked misunderstandings that crop up in all of these types of shows, and quite a lot of scenes are filmed at crotch level, but it's not as heavy as something like Queen's Blade. The first episode is a bit of a bait and switch. There's some interesting action and secret organizations bent on capturing or eliminating the cat girl, but by episode three that has turned into a gimmick that doesn't really pan out. It's pretty much all about the harem, and well, I don't care for harem shows. I watched three episodes of this and I'm calling it quits now. I will say that as far as harem shows go, this is probably one of the better ones. The fact that I watched three episodes instead of dropping it after one says a lot. | Coppelion (TV) | I had high hopes for this show. It has a great premise, in which genetically altered girls venture into a nuclear wasteland Tokyo in order to rescue people, and it's gorgeous. Unfortunately, it's terribly written and I can't distinguish a plot. The characters are a big issue, they are cardboard slabs, and for some reason they are sent forth into this mission dressed in schoolgirl outfits. They also seem ill equipped to do much of anything, unless the plot conveniently throws them a bone (like a key stealing wolf/dog, or an anti aircraft gun). Any drama with the people they come into contact with feel majorly forced. In fact, I can't thin of a single positive thing about this show other than the well rendered setting. Therefore, I'm dropping it after 3 episodes, as sadly it's not very good. (Started and dropped October 2013) |

| Coyote Ragtime Show (TV) | The first episode wasn't so bad, at least I wasn't turned off, but the show got progressively less interesting after that. I only lasted for three episodes. I think this show tries too hard to be a cool action show and comes off as a cheesy mishmash of ideas instead. The twelve sisters? Dumb. The old dude and his two lackeys? Lame. Their pet loli? Double lame. I honestly couldn't find one reason to keep watching this show, so I dropped it. No need to waste my time. | |
| Cromartie High School (TV) | So-so | I went into this one expecting to like it. Unfortunately, the humor didn't click with me. Oh, there were a few funny moments, but overall it failed to make me laugh. I got to the humming episode (3?) before I decided that it wasn't for me. UPDATE: I tried this one again. I watched Eps. 4 and 5 and I'm still not diggin' it. Mildly funny, but nothing special. Not worth my time. |
| Crying Freeman (OAV) | I watched the first two episodes of this and was considering finishing it, until I stopped myself and asked "Why?". I've read the manga, so I already know the story is a giant trainwreck. And the high point of the manga, Ikegami's art, looks awkward on the screen. I know the best part was the beginning and the remaining four epsiodes probably have the most painful chapters of the manga, such as the African Tusk arc and the body double arc. I don't feel like subjecting myself to those again, so I'll just stop now and save 4 hours of my life. (Started and dropped January 2012) |

I've also seen enough Shounen Jump stuff to know that I am incredibly bored by "boy with powers fights increasingly stronger enemies as his powers level up and he grows stronger himself". | Destiny of the Shrine Maiden (TV) | Not really good | I found Kannazuki no Miko to be so very dull. I couldn't connect with the story or characters at all. I can't say it was a bad show, as there isn't anything wrong with it that I can specifically pinpoint. But on the other hand, I can't point out anything good either. I gave up trying after the 5th episode. |
| Doki Doki School Hours (TV) | Weak | This is like a poor man's Azumanga Daioh. I sat through a couple of episodes and I barely cracked a smile. The show is full of standard anime jokes that I've seen before in other comedy anime. The difference is that other shows manage to be funny, and this one just falls flat. |
| Excel Saga (TV) | Bad | So...Excel Saga...WTF was that? Half the jokes flew right by me and the half that I did get weren't funny. I realize that this anime's appeal lies in it's ridiculousness, but I Was Not Amused. Excel Saga didn't do anything for me. I vastly prefer comedies like Azumanga Daioh or Strawberry Marshmallow. |

Unlike other dates, there are no compelling characters or pretty fight scenes to distract me from the fact that this is generic forgettable sludge. The anime equivalent of paste. | Flame of Recca (TV) | This here is a generic paint by numbers shounen fighting series. If you like these, great. I generally don't. I found the few episodes of Recca that I endured to be predictable in the extreme, and without the personalities that made Kenichi for example (another fighting show) so fun. I found the badly drawn fanservice distracting as well. Seeing the "crotch cam" on a older series with dated character designs just looks odd. Recca's stupid hair was distracting too. I thought it looked like a clump of crab grass and I wanted to weed that sucker. In any case, I can't take anymore, so consider the show dropped. (Started and dropped November 2010) |

| Ga-Rei-Zero (TV) | I struggled through three episodes of this show before calling it quits. It starts out like your standard cheesy monster fighting action show, but the first episode had an interesting twist at the end. That brief spark of uniqueness was all it seemed to have though, as the next two episodes were dreadfully dull, and featured a pair of really bland leads. I didn't find the conflict between these girls interesting in the slightest, so I decide to stop torturing myself with this boring show and occupy my time elsewhere. (Started and dropped July 2011) |

| Gasaraki (TV) | I watched eleven episodes of this before finally throwing in the towel. I can't say it was bad, it just failed to capture my interest. Actually, it was dead boring. This is one of those plot heavy shows with very little characterization. Whole episodes seemed to be filled with nothing but talking heads. Even when the action started to pick up, I found little reason to care. I kept watching hoping that something would "click" and I would get sucked in by the plot, but after watching almost half the show, I don't think that's going to happen. So, this is the end for me. | Ghastly Prince Enma Burning Up (TV) | This is a remake of a show from the 70's so I'm sure I missed a ton of references. Regardless, the show didn't do anything for me. I was struggling to determine the target audience, as the show has a kiddie look and the humor is mostly kid appropriate (IMO), yet there's stuff in there that would fly over kid's heads, so maybe it's meant for their parents? Either way, I didn't laugh and didn't find the story interesting, so I'm out after two episodes. (Started and dropped April 2013) |

| Girls und Panzer (TV) | I watched the first episode and was fighting a losing battle to maintain an interest. Even the tanks could not make watching a gaggle of generic moe-styled anime girls interesting. About the only thing that caught my attention was the very end of the episode, where the camera zooms out and you see the world the live on is actually a gigantic aircraft carrier thing. It was like they took elements from a bunch of super popular shows and stuck them in a blender and the result was this crapfest. The show felt like it was trying too hard. As a result, I was turned off and I won't be finishing this. |
| Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time – A Tale of the Eight Guardians (TV) | If you've ever seen a "girl gets sucked into another world" show, you've seen this. It borrows heavily from Fushigi Yugi especially. Haruka is based on a dating sim for girls. The lead, Akane, is a crying helpless nonentity who gets summoned to another world to be a dragon priestess. She has to track down eight guardians and fight the demons or somesuch. I got about halfway through this show before throwing in the towel. For one, the pacing is glacially slow. Secondly, Akane is just unbearable as a lead. She is the obvious viewer stand in, bland and boring, and also always crying. Third, the character designs for the harem were over the top. The show appeared to be going for a more serious approach, but I can't take guys with huge candy colored hair seriously in such a setting. They were the obvious color coded "anime shortcut" tropes that I've come to dislike greatly. I don't know if the show eventually goes anywhere or not, but I'm not sticking around to find out. The plot was one I'd seen before (also better executed), the characters were paper thin, and frankly, the show was just uninteresting. | Hell Girl (TV) | I didn't like it. I found it to be too repetitive, even for an episodic show. Watching bad people do horrible things and get sent to hell over and over again isn't very enjoyable for me. I don't mind dark and dreary shows, but Hell Girl was just unpleasant. | |
| Heroic Age (TV) | I managed to get through a quarter of this show before calling it quits. I found the first seven episodes to be pretty meh, but not completely unpalatable, so I put it aside to try again later. It been a couple of weeks and I just tried to watch episode 8, which has to feature one of the most boring space battles ever. I realized that I don't give a damn about this story or these characters and I started to check out about halfway through. This show is clearly not for me and I'm dropping it. | Hetalia - Axis Powers (TV) | I watched the first season of this show and I had a pretty mixed reaction. First, it wasn't really that funny. Super silly "stupid" humor isn't really my thing in the first place. But, I found the historical aspect of it interesting. The characters are memorable. The dub isn't very good. I hated the accents. I think that this show is not for me, I will probably just read the manga instead. Perhaps I will watch more on Funimation.com, but I didn't like the show enough to buy the rest of it. | |
| Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere (TV) | This anime is almost universally panned, but I decided to give it a shot anyway. Suffice to say, it wasn't for me. I won't go into the deliberately obtuse "plot" or the gimmicky character designs (one of which was a racist caracature). This is a show that just tries too hard and the "everything but the kitchen sink" style of storytelling just turned me off. With the focus going in 20 different directions, I found myself bored to tears. So, I'm going to listen to the reviews and not waste any more time on this show. (Started and dropped January 2012) |

| Ikki Tousen (TV) | Awful | The panty shots and disintegrating clothes were just over the top. Stick a fork in me, I'm done after two episodes. This was terrible. Tenjho Tenge had a similiar premise, and it was much better. I highly recommend watching that show instead and leaving this one to rot on the shelf. |
| Intrigue in the Bakumatsu - Irohanihoheto (TV) | This seemed like the kind of series I would like, a period show steeped in Japanese history with a supernatural element. Unfortunately, I'm finding it tedious. I like the realistic art style and the soundtrack is great, but the plot is convoluted and I don't care about these cardboard characters. | Kurokami The Animation (TV) | This is about as cliche-ridden as it gets. It starts out with your average high school boy who encounters a mysterious girl with strange powers/fighting ability. The premise is that there are three of evrybody in the world and to meet one of your dopplegangers means that you will die unless you are the "root" i.e. the main body. Some shadowy organization is collecting roots in order to take over the world or some such. Meanwhile, Keita (the boy) and Kuro make some sort of pact to save his life in which they have more power but he can't leave her side. I called it quits after episode three. The characters are pretty flimsy, with Kaita being your typical sullen whiner and Kuro being the stereotypical "eats a lot" character. Maybe they develop more later on, but as they are, they aren't interesting enough to watch a show about. The action, while well animated, was the sort of cheesy shounen fighting show antics that I can only stomache in a comedy. Here it's played totally straight as Keita and Kuro have a silly naked transformation scene where glowing symbols emerge on their hands and they get glowing auras. They complete the transformation with a huge glowing symbol on the floor. It all looks terribly cheesy and is played totally straight. This is clearly not my kind of show. Now, it wasn't bad, but just the sort of painfully mediocre fare that I may have watched when I was brand new to anime but now no longer have the patience for. (watched and dropped September 2011) |

| Maria Watches Over Us Season 2: Printemps (TV) | I watched the first season of this quite awhile ago and it just about put me to sleep. This show is extremely slow moving with a nonexistant plot. The second season is seems to be pretty much more of the same: a very idealized portrayal of teen girls at an all girls school. I really couldn't connect with the characters, because they seems so much like outdated ideals than actual girls. It's like a fantasy world where women are all perfectly polite, soft spoken, delicate flowers. I don't know of any real live women like this. Also, even their drama is boring, often small events being blown out of proportion because someone was too polite to just ask questions. I was only able to finish two episodes of season two, but it's enough to let me know that this show is not for me. if I want a quiet, understated, plotless show, I'll just watch Aria. At least Aria's setting is unique enough to keep me engaged. Maria is just a big bore. | |
| Marmalade Boy (TV) | So-so | I watched the first DVD set of Marmalade Boy (19 episodes). In the beginning, it follows the manga fairly closely, but after awhile, it tends to drag out the plot. The story really can't support a series this long IMO. Also, I was not a huge fan of the original manga. I thought it was decent but nothing to write home about. This anime didn't do anything to change my opinion. My verdict: stick with the manga, it gets to the point faster. |
| Martian Successor Nadesico (TV) | Bad (dub), So-so (sub) | I watched the first five episodes. First off, the English dub was horrendous, so I switched over to japanese. The problem with this is usually humor series work much better for me in English. I got the jokes, but it's a little less funny reading it as opposed to actually hearing it. Next, the series doesn't look so good. I don't mind watching older anime (Maison Ikkoku is in my top 20), but this looked especially rough in the animation department. Finally, the story didn't hook me. It wasn't bad, but nothing was there to compel me to keep watching. |
| Mitsudomoe (TV) | I gave this the one episode test on Crunchyroll and I can safely say it's not for me. While I loved Strawberry Marshmellow, another comedy about a group of elementary school girls, the humor in Mitsudomoe left me cold. For one the show had a sort of skeevy undercurrent that put me off. The marriage of sexual humor and little kids feels very wrong. When one of the sisters went up to the teacher to inform him that the class pet "nipples" was sick, in which we get a shot of her feeling up her undeveloped chest, I knew this show was pedobait. | Mobile Suit Gundam Seed (TV) | I thought I'd jump in and give a Gundam show a chance, since there are so many. Unfortunately, I barely got past 2 episodes. I found it to be boring, cheesy and cliche. The show just tosses you in there after only a cursory intro to the many characters and some war. The combat and explosions pretty much take center stage, but I find it hard to give a damn if I'm not given a proper set-up. This show completely failed at capturing my interest. Also, I won't be sad if the super boy pilot plot device disappears. | |

I enjoyed the first episode much more than I was expecting, having not been the biggest fan of the Gundam franchise. It obviously had a large budget to work with, as it is beautifully animated, making even the less interesting bits fun to watch. Having not seen much Gundam previously, there were many references to past series that I didn't grasp, but thankfully they aren't important to understanding the plot here. I am looking forward to continuing this. I've finally gotten around to watching up to episode five and I must say that this show keeps getting better and better. The animation is absolutely amazing. The characters have been fleshed out a bit, and the story isn't as obtuse. There are still some details I feel I have missed by not seeing other Gundam shows, but the don't appear to be crucial to my enjoyment of the show. |

I am about halfway through this show and I dont know if I have it in me to finish it. First off, I do not like titty shows, and since I'm treated to a closd up of bouncing tits flapping in the breeze at least once an episode, it is very clear I am not the target audience. Second, omg is gojo ever a back-boneless drip. I just want to yell at him: find your balls, take her measurements it's not that big a deal, ask for freaking help, she offered, just everything. Since this is clearly wish fulfillment material for lonely otaku, I may not finish, but as far as production values go it looks great and the core story is solid. I wish it remained a cute romance about a boy embracing his hobbies and getting the girl, instead of a fan service vehicle for lonely nerds. Yeahhh, I'm going to nope out of this one. Episode six introduces another girl. This time a prepubescent looking "high school girl". I dont think this is a harem show, but even if Gojo doesnt start collecting girls, I really dont want to stick around so the "camera" can perv on this one too. In fact she is introduced by Gojo walking in on her in the bath. Gross. (Dropped March 2023) |

| Nichijou - My Ordinary Life (TV) | I caught a couple episodes of this on Crunchyroll and sadly it didn't do anything for me. It's a shame, since the show looks nice and is well animated. It's just terribly unfunny. This is based off a four-koma and it shows, as it lacks flow and is kind of "choppy". Unlike shows like Lucky Star and Azumanga Diaoh (also based off 4-koma), where the jokes follow a story path and flow from one to the next naturally, this show had jokes and situations with little relation to each other separated by a title card or a random landscape scene. In fact, a lot of the humor is based on wacky "randomness" which left me cold. I don't think I'll be watching any more of this. (started and dropped September 2011) |

| Nobunaga The Fool (TV) | This is yet another take a bunch of historical figures and throw them in the pot type of plot. I can't take any more of this. I originally kept watching because I like the art and music and was hoping it would get better. Nope. Joan of Arc is the worst, set up to be a warrior and related to pretty much a useless bystander who occasionally needs rescuing. I'm getting strong Gary-Stu vibes from the male lead Nobunaga as well. Later on, I thought maybe instead I could watch this ironically in a "so bad it's good" way, but I've stalled out of ep. 11 as the new Spring shows have come out and they are all more interesting than this trainwreck. | Orphen (TV) | Weak | About the only good thing I can say about this title is that i liked the English dub. Other than that, the show isn't good. With the plot points visible from 10 miles away, the really low rent animation, and the super repetitive soundtrack, it's a wonder that I even made it through 14 episodes. Somehow I did though and I give credit to the dub for being mildly amusing. Unfortunately funny one liners does not a show make and I gave up on this POS. |
| Our Home's Fox Deity (TV) | I watched the four episodes that were available free here on ANN. I thought it was pretty middle-of-the-road. Coo is interesting and the fact it is essentially both male and female is intriguing. The two boys s/he guards are dull as dishwater though. The show is not worth paying for, but if I just wanted something uncomplicated and inoffensive to veg out to, I'd watch the rest. Since I can't do that without paying, I'm going to drop the show. | Pandora Hearts (TV) | I'm a bit torn on this one. While on one hand, I found the story mildly interesting, I thought the characterization was a bit shallow and the show was mediocre overall. I did like the Alice in Wnderland elements, as they were genuinely creepy and overall well done. I also liked the look of the show, as it had some really interesting designs and was well animated. However, after 13 episodes I still wasn't completely sold on the series. Unfortunately, the only way for me to watch the second half would be to buy NISA's 2nd box set. This is a show I wouldn't mind finishing if it were streaming free somewhere, but just isn't good enough to spend money on. SO, I'm dropping it for now. | Pani Poni Dash! (TV) | I've restarted this series twice now and it just isn't doing anything for me. On this latest attempt, I made it to episode three. First, the humor, that 4-koma style of random sight gags and slapstick nonsense, is not my thing in the slightest. It didn't even elicit a giggle out of me. Next, the show just looks cheap. I realize this show is several years old, but the bland color palette and the super generic 4-koma style character designs are not doing it a favor. Anime based off of 4-koma are mostly a miss for me with very few hits, like Azumanga Daioh and Lucky Star. Paniponi Dash appears to be one of the misses. (Started and dropped February 2012) |

It's hard to write about this sort of show because it leaves absolutely no impression at all. The premise is one thats been done before, a group of kids fights paranormal phenomena with magic. Even the character designs were on the bland and forgettable side. The plot didn't seem to be developing into anything interesting, it was just monster of the week for the first three episodes. | Samurai Flamenco (TV) | For me, this show is mildly entertaining only. Hazama is an average guy who wants to be a superhero like his childhood idol. So, he dresses up in a cheesy costume and catches litterers and jaywalkers. I liked the sense of realism in the beginning of the show. However, it jumps the shark in a big way at the end of episode 7, in which a hokey super villain appears as a counterpart to Samurai Flamenco. I was hoping that it was a drug induced hallucination, but unfortunately episode 8 continues with this theme of cheesy costumed villains. So, I'm out. | Sekirei (TV) | I can't believe I manged to watch even an episode of this crapfest. I decided to check it out "on demand" and I want my 25 minutes back. The story begins with your standard loser audience stand in lead. He's failed his college entrance exam twice and he's whining about what a loser he is on his way home, when out of the sky falls your cliche mysterious girl with powers. This mysterious girl had impossible huge bullet shaped mams bigger than her head. I predicted a face to boob gag and within seconds, one happened. And gee, she doesn't have a place to stay, looks like she's moving in. This show was seriously predictable. The main premise seems to be that the Sekirei and their partners fight each other, which is a flimsy excuse to see some shedding of clothes and to have the loser boy fall in love with Tits McGee. I don't know how any mature adult could be entertained by this show. It so blatantly pandered to that lonely nerd basement dweller demographic that I felt alienated. Not to mention that the story is a lame clichefest. Obviously, it was not created for me. I'm done. (started and dropped December 2010) |

| Shonen Onmyouji (TV) | Based on various reviews and forum comments, this is a show that people either love or find to be a bit boring. Unfortunately, I fall in the latter camp, as I found the three episodes that I did struggle through extremely tedious. I can't even say that this ia a bad show, it's just that I felt I've seen all of this before. Plucky young boy protagonist wants to try his best to become a great onmyouji. He's got a talking animal sidekick and moons over the pretty princess. I'm not going to force myself to watch something that obviously isn't doing it for me, so I'm dropping this. | Soul Eater (TV) | I watched the first four episodes of this and while is certainly is very stylish looking, I think I am too old for it. If I were twelve years old again, Soul Eater would've been the shit but it was just too simple for my 28 year old self. The plot was very straightforward and the characters had simple one note personalities. This isn't a bad thing, as it really is a kids' show. I can see this fitting in nicely on the Cartoon Network or something and airing on Saturday morning. I think the show is very good for the age group that it targets, and I was still entertained if just in a mindless way. I will probably finish the box set that I have, since I paid for it, but I will not be purchasing the rest. Maybe I will catch the rest on On Demand or something, that is if I am still entertained by the show after the first 12 eps. (Started and dropped October 2010) |

| Space Pirate Captain Herlock The Endless Odyssey (OAV) | Weak | I watched 4 episodes of this (the first DVD). I didn't do anything for me. I had no prior familiarity with the characters or storyline. That may be a reason why the characters felt so flat and lifeless and the plot was so very dull. Either way, I won't be continuing with this. |
| Squid Girl (TV) | I wanted to like squid girl, as the premise sounded fun. Here, a squidlike girl comes from the sea in order to subjugate humanity. Your milage will vary based upon how cute and/or interesting you find the squidgirl and laugh at her ineptness. I barely giggled. I found her boring. Therefore, the show pretty much falls absolutely flat for me. I can see how this show would be popular though. It seems squarely aimed at the moe loving demographic. The five episodes I watched all pretty much follow the same formula, in which the lead has a supernatural problem brought to his attention, and then solves it with his onmyouji power and/or the help of his demon sidekick. The whole premise itself feels stale, as I've seen the demon busting boy protagomist fight the supernatual many times before. Unfortunately, there is no hint of a larger plot to get me interested, as it's all been monster of the week. The characters are straight out of the trope box as well, so nothing there to maintain interest either. That cheesy disco tune that plays every episode during the demon busting chants also isn't helping. I think I'm done with this show. It's not terrible, just extremely mediocre. | Tears to Tiara (TV) | I had hope for this show, but I eventually got the feeling that I was wasting my life watching it. It is completely mediocre and also quite generic. I've you've ever seen a fantasy anime or played an RPG, you've seen this. Also, it had the stench of dating sim all over it, as a whole gaggle of female characters of stock types with little plot importance eventually found themselves collected around Arawn. Since the show relied so much on stock charatcers and fantasy tropes, I found it super predictable and was a bit bored watching it. The show wasn't bad enough for me to drop it right away, but I wasn't good enough to keep my attention either. I made it through eleven episodes before throwing in the towel. | Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee (TV) | I've watched the first five episodes and I'm finding it be a very formulaic Shounen Jump show. Lag Seeing wants to become a "Letter Bee" (pretty much like a mailman) and grows up/gets stronger, helps people, and gathers friends in his goal to be the bestest mailman ever so he can track down the mother who sent him away. This isn't a bad show, but I am far from the target demographic (kids), and I didn't get much out of it. Also, the naming in this show was of the "random words Japanese people think sound cool" variety and it kept yanking me out of the story. I couldn't help but eyeroll as Lag has to deliver a letter to "Love Someone Down" or help someone find "Jiggy Pepper". It's impossible to take seriously. This show clearly isn't for me. | Texhnolyze (TV) | I first tried this show many years ago when I was pretty new to anime. At that time I didn't know what to make of it, so I set it aside for later. Now I can say that it's not for me, but it's not a bad show by any means. It's very atmospheric, taking place in a futuristic underground city ruled by gangs. The first episode is almost completely without dialog, and the silence is as oppressive as the setting appears to be. This show also shows instead of tells, and does not spoonfeed info, which I highly appreciated. However, the characters were very un-emotive and had little personality, making it difficult to care what happens to them. The gang war plot was slow to get started and when revealed wasn't particularly interesting to me. I watched up to episode eight (disc 2), and I probably would have kept watching if it were streaming somewhere. I really don't care enough about the show to purchase it or track it down later though. | This Ugly Yet Beautiful World (TV) | I remember catching a couple episodes of this show when I first discovered anime and had a "meh" reaction. Now 5 years later I'm watching it again and I find it's triggering a couple of my hot button issues. First, I hate the shiftless good for nothing hero who lucks into super powers. But I really hate the personalityless "real doll" like love interest who only exists as a plot device for the hero. She's also childlike and lacks agency. Is it too much to ask for a decently written "magical girlfriend" character? Why can't they be written as people and not things? Whatever. I'm tired of this shit. Dropped. (dropped July 2012) |

| To Heart (TV) | I kept my expectations low for this show, but it wasn't as bad as I feared. It turned out to be a really low key slice of life show with I'm guessing some romance later. Unfortunately, the show turned out to be too low key for me. I almost fell asleep. The very first episode spends all it's time on deciding the seatng change for the class. This wouldn't have been so bad if it were not portrayed in the dullest, slowest way possible. All of the episodes I saw were like that. Adding to that, I found the characters incredibly boring. I have no problem watching slow plotless shows as long as there is something there, usually interesting and nuanced characters, to keep my interest. To Heart doesn't have those, I'm afraid. So, while I didn't find the show to be objectionable, it was so boring as to be nearly unwatchable. I value my time so I'm out after 4 episodes. (Started and dropped December 2010) |

| (The) Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk (TV) | I watched the first five epsiodes with my husband before stopping. He didn't like it, and I thought it was "meh". The story is incredibly stupid and I didn't connect with the characters, but I did like some of the comedy such as the episode where the party is in the boobytrapped coridor. That episode was the only one I enjoyed and I had planned to pick the show up again and watch it by myself, but the DVDs have been sitting on my computer desk for over a month now. Despite the over the top melodrama-laden opening episode, this show is a cute and inoffensive romantic comedy that hits just on the watchable side of average. The relationship between Manabe and Kotoura is cute and they're easy to root for. On the other hand, the premise wraps itself up fairly neatly at the end of episode 4. Where else does the show have to go? After watching episodes 5 and 6, I have completely lost interest. These episodes just meander and it appears the show no longer has anything really to say, so I'm out. |

I can get over the oddly pointed character designs, what threw me were the ultra lame mystery plots with villains having the stupidest motivations for their murdering. Seriously eyerolling. | Utawarerumono (TV) | Not really good | I tried. I watched the first volume. It reminded me of 12 Kindoms-lite (very light). It doesn't do a very good job of introducing the characters and making you care about them. When a character dies and my thought is "whoop-dee-do", I know the show is not working for me. So, I will not be finishing this one. There are too many other shows out there to waste my time with this. |

I got about halfway through the show at episode 28 before I decided to take a break. I thought I'd go back to it someday, but it's been sitting on my shelf for half a year untouched. I've decided to drop it at this point as life's too short to waste on mediocre entertainment. | |

The focus was shifting away from glasses-kun's journey to focus on all the side characters, and the pace slowed way down. | Yu Yu Hakusho: Ghost Files (TV) | I started out fairly entertained by this title, for the first 5 or so episodes anyway. The plot had an interesting premise and the characters were somewhat interesting. Unfortunately, the show took a sharp nosedive right after that and got really really stupid. I put it aside and told myself that I'll give it another episode or two to regain my interest, but it's been months and I have no desire to pick it back up. At this point, I know I never will. | Yukikaze (OAV) | I didn't like it. The characters were pretty lifeless, and the plot shallow and dull. There were quite a few action scenes, but I need a bit more depth than that. To be fair, I only saw the first of five episodes, but I won't be continuing. If a show can't provide me with a reason to watch early on, I see no reason to waste my time in hopes that it "gets better". Even if it does, that doesn't negate the crap I had to wade through to get to the good part. |
