It looks like I've triggered an algorithm that has identified me as someone who consistently tries to manipulate the percentages either up or down. Oh, well.....

I try to add enlightening commentary, but let's face it:
I'm far from perfect.

I have seen two three videos that examine the concept of "classics" from distinctly different perspectives:
  1. Gigguk | Garnt Maneetapho

  2. Mother's Basement | Geoff Thew

  3. Bonsai Pop | Mike ?

In this video YouTube user Gigguk (Garnt Maneetapho) talks about SAO in the context of gateway anime.

(The) Anthem of the Heart (movie) Masterpiece
It reminded me of myself.
Aoharu x Machinegun (TV) Awful (dub), Bad (sub)
  1. Ep.#1: Hotaru Tachibana is a girl disguised as a boy.
Ookaayy, so why is no backstory provided? Maybe its' provided later on; but if not, then this series gets rated no higher than 6/11 ─ and that would be generous on my part!
  1. Ep.#2: Hotaru Tachibana is introduced to survival games. Query: What is Aoharu?
  2. Ep.#3: A number of characters are introduced, but the most important one is Nagamasa Midori. Hotaru Tachibana is unknowingly invited to a test of mental fortitude.
  3. Ep.#4: At a survival game competition Hotaru Tachibana is unable to realize that her athleticism alone will not make her a helpful member of the team ─ so Masumune Matsuoka forcibly places "him" on the opposing team!
  4. Ep.#5: It takes a long time ─ a very long time ─ but Hotaru Tachibana does eventually learn that athleticism alone is not enough.
  5. Ep.#6: The stakes for the upcoming survival game are laid out.
  6. Ep.#7: Hotaru Tachiban has a chivalrous fight with Takatora Fujimoto ─ but which team will prevail?
  7. Ep.#8: The team loses. (Pro: +1)
  8. Ep.#9: Kanae Yajima persuades Hotaru Tachibana that she is not being true to herself regarding Masamune Matsuoka, Tooru Yukimura and survival games.
  9. Ep.#10: Masamune Matsuoka expells Hotaru Tachibana from Toy Gun Gun ─ so she (Hotaru) challenges Nagamasa Midori to a game.
  10. Ep.#11: a psychological episode ─ symbolic shots at 17:02, 19:25 and 21:13. Tooru Yukimura tells Hotaru Tachibana the accurate story regarding Masamune Matsuoka and Nagamasa Midori ─ so she (Hotaru) challenges Masamune to a game.
  11. Ep.#12: Hotaru Tachibana loses to Masamune Matsuoka ─ but still persuades him to let her back on Toy Gun Gun.
"It's alright, I'm not afraid of anything anymore.
  12. Ep.#13: Symbolism at 20:39.
This series is an extended commercial for the manga ─ skip this anime and just read the manga!!!
(The) Apothecary Diaries (TV) Masterpiece (dub & sub)
My post here.
Appleseed (OAV) I saw this (only once, and that was a WAYS back) on the former SciFi Channel. The only thing I can now recall was being pleasantly surprised by how muted and psychological the ending was.
Appleseed: Ex Machina (movie) Good
Arcadia of My Youth (movie) Excellent
Based on a manga by Leiji Matsumoto, this is one of Matsumoto's less fantastical concepts. I'm rating it at 10/11 because there are meaningful deaths.
Area 88 (TV) Masterpiece (dub & sub)

From a kick-ass OP to life and death on the battlefield, this is a cracking-good show!

From this post:

Curiously enough, I'm having some difficulty remembering my exact reasons for labeling it a Masterpiece. I think that it was because we don't really know until the end if the photographer is an anti-hero or not -- that, and the wedding scene.
Arjuna (TV) Good
Armed Girl's Machiavellism (TV) Very good (dub & edit.dub & sub)

  1. unexpectedly amusing.....
    • is this turning into a harem comedy???!!!
    • I'm finding myself falling in love with the voice of Tetsuharu Ohta ("Kusuo Masukodera"). That 's quite unusual for me.
    • Also, the OST (OP, ED & BGM) is great!
  2. If this takes the path that I think it's taking, then I'll rate this no higher than 6/11!
  3. And so Warabi Hanasaka goes all in on her war with Fudō Nomura.....
  4. unexpected humor at the end.....
  5. Yeeaaah, this is definitely heading into harem comedy territory.....
  6. Aaand this episode is not episodic, either! (Guess I'm gonna have to rate it higher than 6/11.....)
  7. And at the end Fudō Nomura reflects on how the girls who have abused him over the past four (4) episodes really aren't such bad people after all.....
  8. And so, now it's come down to this: Fudō Nomura vs. Kirukiru Amou.
  9. The backstories of Fudō Nomura and Kirukiru Amou are explained.....
  10. Fudō Nomura is given a choice:
    Take it or leave it.
  • In spite of all of its shortcomings ─ and believe me, there are plenty I will rate the Japanese dub at 9/11.
  • The English dub is surprisingly good.....
    ADR Director: Shannon Reed
And finally, there's an OAV (hot springs, naturally.....)
Armitage III (OAV) Very good (dub & sub)
There are some things that are unexplained in this OAV.....
ADR Director: Kevin Seymour
Ascendance of a Bookworm (TV) Excellent (dub & sub)

  1. Series setup (9/11)
BUT: No explanation is given as to how she died in her previous life (when she was presumably an adult librarian).
  2. Interesting OST.
    09:30 | 5-year olds don't have romantic feelings. CON
Main Myne has to learn a different alphabet.
Main Myne comes to terms with losing the name "Motosu Uranu"
  3. Main Myne introduces several new technologies.
  4. Main Myne tries to create cuneiform tablets.
  5. For whatever reason, it never occurs to Main Myne to create the parchment used by the guards.
  6. Main Myne finally starts scheming about how to make paper.
  7. Lutz wonders who Myne really is.....
  8. Myne explains to Lutz; the paper-making project produces prototypes.
  9. Myne & Lutz meet Frieda.
  10. Myne has more problems with the Devouring
  11. Myne has adapted to her new world; now she must choose between dying with her new/adoptive family or becoming a noble's concubine.
  12. Myne may have found a way to live without becoming a noble's concubine.
  13. Myne makes arrangements to keep as many options open as possible.
  14. THERE WILL BE A 2ND COUR!!!
ADR Directors:
THERE ARE LIGHT NOVELS!!!
Ascendance of a Bookworm (TV 2) Masterpiece (dub & sub)
  1. Myne enters the religious order and is confronted by office politics and societal politics.
  2. Gil goes hungry because Myne doesn't realize that she is responsible for his care.
  3. Myne wins over both Gil and (possibly) Delia. But who is being locked away?
    • How much can Delia be trusted?
    • Compositing problems. That's unusual.....
    • Apparently, Delia can be trusted.....
    • Rating at 11/11.
  4. Myne takes to the job of Orphanage Director with gusto; but her health suffers for it.
  5. Lutz and his father get into a heated argument over his (Lutz's) work ambitions. Myne and the Head Priest end up getting involved.
    • Myne and Rosina get into an argument over Rosina's duties.
    • After they resolve their differences Rosina tells Myne that Wilma had been sexually harrassed and assaulted. That's keeping it real; so I'm rating this one at 11/11.
  6. After two long years, Myne has finally figured out how to make a book.
  7. Myne produces educational books, reorganizes the one-room library and makes plans for a Guttenburg Press.
  8. Myne is committed to a "battle"; but it looks like she's going to be betrayed.
  9. Schicicoza attacks Myne; as a result, a trombe grows and attacks Myne, seeking her mana. This all reflects poorly on the knights. Rating this at 11/11 because the battle unexpectadly displays class divisions.
  10. "The ending is Paramount." And it's about a bibliophile! Rating this at 11/11.
ADR Director: Julie Kliewer
Ascendance of a Bookworm (OAV) Excellent (dub & sub)
  • So these 2 dimwits get sent by this blue priest to get information on Myne.
  • Myne is assertive; and the family is so cute!
  • ADR Director unlisted
Assassination Classroom (TV) Masterpiece
It's not just that that watching the children doing their level-headed best to kill their teacher is so funny; it's watching the class come together that is so inspiring!
Assassination Classroom (TV 2) Masterpiece
The ending – episode #24 – made this a masterpiece (11/11) for me in spite of the fact that that episode #25 was unnecessary.
