Baseball Manga Major's Sequel Centers on Goro's Son
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
This year's 14th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine announced on Wednesday that Takuya Mitsuda will begin the continuation of his long-running Major manga in the magazine's next issue on March 11. The manga, titled Major 2nd, will be the first new installment in the series in five years.
The magazine teases the plot:
Daigo was born as the son of Goro, a father who is too great.
What path will Daigo, who is burdened with great expectations, take in baseball?
Mitsuda first serialized Major in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine from 1994 until 2010. The story begins when Goro Honda's father, a professional baseball player, dies in an accident. This gives him the motivation to try and become a pro baseball player himself. Shogakukan published 53 million copies of the manga's 78 compiled book volumes. The final (at the time) limited-edition volume shipped in December 2010 with a special original video anime.
The manga inspired its first television anime series in 2004, and the sixth television anime series ran in 2010. The manga also inspired an anime film titled Major: Yūjō no Winning Shot in 2008.
