1st Film Announced for Mitsuda's Major Manga/Anime

The official website of the Japanese film distributor TOHO has announced that the first film based on Takuya Mitsuda's Major baseball manga and television anime franchise will open in January of 2009. The fourth television series of Major will premiere on January 5.
Most of the television series main cast will reprise their roles for the film, including Motoko Kumai and Showtaro Morikubo who play Gorō, the son of a major league batter who dreams of making it big himself. (Kumai and Morikubo play Goro as a child and an adult, respectively.) Junko Noda will play Goro's maternal figure Momoko and Fuyuka Oura will play Goro's friend and rival Toshiya. Yūko Sasamoto will return as Goro's childhood sweetheart Kaoru, as will Rie Kugimiya as another childhood friend Daisuke. Michihiro Tsuchiya, the script editor for the television series, will write the movie's screenplay.
