Squid Girl Manga Gets New Original Video Anime in September
posted on by Egan Loo
This year's 13th issue of Akita Shoten's Shōnen Champion magazine is announcing on Thursday that Masahiro Anbe's 17th Squid Girl (Shinryaku! Ika Musume) manga volume will bundle an original video anime. Unlike the two previous original video anime releases, this September 9 limited edition will bundle a Blu-ray Disc instead of a DVD.
Three directors — Takayuki Inagaki (Rosario + Vampire, My mental choices are completely interfering with my school romantic comedy), Makoto Moriwaki (Tantei Opera Milky Holmes), and Shin Misawa (Gingitsune) — are directing the three new episodes "with laughs and new characters" on this Blu-ray.
The comedy manga follows a squid girl who vows to invade the beaches of mankind since humans have polluted the seas. However, her invasion is less than successful, and she ends up on dry land.
Crunchyroll streamed both television anime seasons and the two previous original video DVDs overseas as they aired in Japan. Media Blasters licensed both seasons and released the first on DVD.
