Wacom, a company that makes digital drawing tablets, has added a new video with character designer and illustrator Hidari to its "Drawing with Wacom" series on Tuesday. The video features Hidari using Wacom's Cintiq 24HD, a drawing tablet with a built-in 24-inch LCD display.
Hidari drew the original character designs for the anime series Fractale and Natsuiro Kiseki, as well as Gust's Atelier Ayesha role-playing game.
Manga author Shiro was also featured in the drawing series last month. Shiro's manga series Yama no Susume is inspiring an anime next year.
The entire series of videos can be viewed at Wacom's YouTube channel. The other artists in the series include So-Ra-No-Wo-To and Hana-Saku Iroha character designer Mel Kishida, characterdesigner Kei (Hatsune Miku and other Vocaloid2 characters), illustrator Ukke (Crosslight CD), designer toi8 (Le Chevalier D'Eon), illustrator redjuice (supercell's "World is Mine" music video), illustrator Akatsuki Katō (Psychic Detective Yakumo novels), animator Ryousuke Sawa (a.k.a. "Ryōchimo"; key animator, Evangelion 1.0; character designer, Birdy the Mighty: Decode), and illustrator Teruhiko Imaizumi (Hanamaru Kindergarten).
In 2007, Wacom bundled the lower-end Bamboo Fun tablet with popular manga-drawing software Pixia and also launched its own manga contest, which continued in 2008. In 2009 the company hosted a Mobile Suit design contest. Wacom's tablets are popular with many artists, and at the 2010 Taipei International Book Exhibit, artist Range Murata also used a Cintiq tablet screen to conduct a drawing demonstration.
