Plot Summary: Surrounded by a cynical public and corrupt, manipulative State leaders, the Royal Space Force (RSF) is largely viewed as a joke as well as a waste of precious money and resources. After a chance meeting with a young, empathetic woman reencourages cadet Shiro Lhadatt to become the first man in space, the RSF cadets and a team of aging scientists rush to complete their epic launch before the military uses their space program as bait to start an all-out war.

Comment:
Previously released in the U.S. in the mid-1980s as Star Quest, which was heavily edited and poorly dubbed.
This was one of the first projects of at least five famous directors and two famous manga-ka, those being: Hiroyuki Yamaga (Abenobashi, Mahoromatic), Hideaki Anno (Evangelion, Kare Kano), Hiroyuki Kitakubo (Golden Boy, Blood: The Last Vampire), Mahiro Maeda (Blue Submarine No. 6, Gankutsuou), Ichiro Itano (Gantz, Megazone 23), Yoshiyuki Sadamoto (Evangelion manga) and Tatsuya Egawa (Golden Boy manga, Magical Taruruuto-kun manga). It was also the first anime by the legendary studio Gainax (Evangelion, FLCL).
