8/3/13 Breinigsville, PA – Anime Ate My Brain Magazine announced last year that they will be hosting a convention called SaikouCon. SaikouCon, which means "best convention”, is the Northeast's newest large scale anime convention.
Presented by Anime Ate My Brain Magazine, a division of Tastes Like Rock! Publishing (Tastes Like Rock! Music Magazine, Anime Ate My Brain Magazine, Tastes Like Rock! Radio, and the upcoming original webcomic Zombie Skatepunk Apocalypse, and Amerimanga Machina Saisei: Jakkan), the convention promises to be a yearly high point in the Summer months of the anime convention season. Boasting a dedicated staff of longtime Japanese anime and manga fans, SaikouCon is excited to be the only convention dedicated exclusively to anime, manga, and Japanese culture in this area of Northeast Pennsylvania.
Confirmed Guests of Honor include Voice Actrees/ADR Director Terri Doty (Fairy Tail, Deadman Wonderland, Okami-san and Her Seven Companions, One Piece), prolific cosplayer and cosplay photographer RuffleButt (Jessie Pridemore), voice and stage actress Jad Saxton (Baccano!, A Certain Scientific Railgun, Freezing, Okami-san and Her Seven Companions, Shangri-La, Fafner: Dead Agressor: Heaven and Earth, Fairy Tail, Michiko and Hatchin), and voice and television actor Darrel Guilbeau (Durarara!!, Samurai Champloo, Bleach, Cyborg 009, Paranoia Agent, and many more).
Featured Guests will include The D20 Girls Project of New Jersey (like the Suicide Girls just without the nudity, but better because they all love games, comics, and ANIME), the film makers behind Cosplayer Nation (the first large scale documentary devoted to cosplay), The League of Hot Geeks, and the Sci-Fi Photo Guys!
Musical guests include DJ Soul Eater from PA (spinning at SaikouCon's DJ Dance Party Happy Fun Time on August 23), Turning Down Harvard from Saylorsburg PA, Hitomi Himekawa from New York City by way of Japan, and Con favorites The Slants from Oregon, all performing at SaikouCon 2013's Cosplay Masquerade Ball on August 24!
The convention will always feature some of the best live entertainment themed to Japanese culture as well as the best in J-Rock, J-Pop, and geek culture musical acts from all over the US and beyond. All of this plus top creators, writers, artists, distributors, industry insiders, English dub and original Japanese voice talent, some of the best cosplay talent, shows, masquerades; and so much more!
The pre-registration period for guests was originally set to close on August 2 at 6 PM EDT, but due to high demand from fans SaikouCon has extended the pre-reg period by ten days; bringing the close of pre-reg to August 12 at 6 PM EDT. During the extension however, Deluxe Attendance Packages and both V.I.P. Attendance Packages will be closed for both 3 Day and 1 Day Registrations. With only ten days remaining between the close of the extended pre-reg period and the convention itself, there likely would not be enough time to get special edition V.I.P. Posters and other package specific goodies made and delivered to the convention staff in time to give them to the guests. With the Basic Attendance Packages still available until the final close of pre-registration both 3 Day and 1 Day registrants will still receive the lower prices on their registrations plus the free download of “Slants! Slants! Revolution” from The Slants, and the SaikouCon Parental Consent Waivers will be available upon request for guests age 16 and under that will not be accompanied by a chaperon age 18 or older. Once the pre-reg period is closed on August 12 at 6 PM EDT at the door tickets will be higher than the non-V.I.P. Packages and SaikouCon will not be providing Parental Consent Forms/Waivers for minors age 16 and under to attend the convention unaccompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or sibling age 18 or older at the door. This is to keep paperwork to a minimum onsite and keep the at the door registrations running quickly and smoothly. For all the details on guest registration, both pre-reg and at the door registration, please visit www.saikoucon.com/registration.html.
The Holiday Inn Conference Center Lehigh Valley has also added an additional five rooms to our block at the discounted rate once more, these rooms will be available to book until August 12 at midnight or until they are all reserved.
On August 7 at 7:30 AM EDT, SaikouCon founder and executive coordinator Michael Meade will be appearing on the Gary in The Morning Show with Gary and Elisa on Pocono 96.7 (also 97.3) FM to talk about SaikouCon 2013 and give away the last of the V.I.P. Passes to SaikouCon 2013 live on air! The show can also be streamed at www.pocono967.com for those outside the local listening area. Gary in The Morning is a Pocono Mountain radio mainstay and local celebrity known in much of the Tri-State area for his many notable years as a radio personality and in demand event MC. Off the wall and acerbic, yet all about his community and service to the greater community, it will be fun to see what Gary thinks of the SaikouCon and the larger anime fandom community!
SaikouCon 2013 will be held August 23, 24, and 25 of 2013 in the heart of the Lehigh Valley area in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania. Hosting the convention in 2013 will be the Holiday Inn Conference Center Lehigh Valley. To book a room in the SaikouCon block at the Holiday Inn please call (610) 391-1000 and tell the staff you want a SaikouCon room! Please reserve your rooms at the discounted SaikouCon Attendee only rate by August 12 2013.
