The official website of Cutie Honey -Tears-, the new live-action film adaptation of Gō Nagai's Cutie Honey manga, began streaming a new trailer on Friday. The video previews the theme song "BELIEVE" by lead actress Mariya Nishiuchi.
The staff also revealed a new poster for the film and a photograph of Nishiuchi's character in the new battle suit.
Nishiuchi (live-action Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo, Switch Girl!!) will star as the title character in the film, which will open in Japan on October 1.
Asai Takeshi (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex opening) is directing the film and Shirogumi Inc.'s Ryo Higuchi is the VFX director. The film's near-future setting will be created with computer graphics.
Filming wrapped up in December and production is slated to be finished by June.
An earlier live-action film directed by Hideaki Anno and starring Eriko Satoh debuted in 2004, followed by a live-action Cutie Honey The Live television series starring Mikie Hara in in 2007. Bandai Entertainment released the film on DVD in North America.
The manga has also inspired two television anime series, an animated movie, several original video animations (OVAs), and manga spin-offs. The original manga ran from 1973-1974 in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine.
