Sentai Filmworks announced its January release slate on Tuesday, revealing that it has licensed Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse. The company plans to release the series on DVD and Blu-ray with both English and Japanese voice-overs.
Sentai Filmworks also announced that Dog & Scissors (Inu to Hasami wa Tsukaiyō) and Little Busters! Refrain will also get English dubs on Blu-ray and DVD. Maid Sama! will also be rereleased on Blu-ray and DVD with an English dub, as previously announced. Non Non Biyori and The Qwaser of Stigmata, are also slated for subtitle-only DVD and Blu-ray releases, while Amagami SS+ and A-Channel slated for Blu-ray releases.
Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse is based on a novel of the same name, which is itself a spinoff of the 2006 visual novel software Muv-Luv Alternative from the adult game company Age. This side story follows the test pilots and mechanics in the United Nations Forces' Tactical Surface Fighter Testing Unit in Alaska.
The protagonist Yūya Bridges (voiced by Daisuke Ono) is a Japanese-American who is the Argos Test Team's main pilot for "XFJ Project," the initiative that is developing the newest Tactical Surface Fighter. Yui Takamura (Mai Nakahara) is the head of development for the project from the Japanese Empire's side.
Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in 2012.
