posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The media distribution service Crunchyroll announced on Wednesday that it will stream the Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse television anime series. Crunchyroll will announce later in what countries the series will be available and when it will premiere on the website.
The anime will premiere in Japan on July 1, and it will also premiere at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on the same day.
The anime is based on the Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse novel, which is itself a spinoff of the 2006 visual novel software Muv-Luv Alternative from the adult game company Age. This side story follows the test pilots and mechanics in the United Nations Forces' Tactical Surface Fighter Testing Unit in Alaska.
The protagonist Yūya Bridges (voiced by Daisuke Ono) is a Japanese-American who is the Argos Test Team's main pilot for "XFJ Project," the initiative that is developing the newest Tactical Surface Fighter. Yui Takamura (Mai Nakahara) is the head of development for the project from the Japanese Empire's side.
Takayuki Inagaki (Desert Punk, Rosario + Vampire) is directing the project at the studios Ixtl x Satelight. Yumiko Hara (Baby Princess 3D Paradise 0 [Love]) is designing the characters.
Update: Background information added.
