Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures began airing a "Now Playing" television commercial for Gareth Edwards' Godzilla remake film on Friday. The video quotes critics who call the film "an instant classic" and other praises after it opened in the United States on the same day.
The film had its Hollywood premiere on May 8, and screenings began in select theaters as early as 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The crew began shooting in Canada early last year. The film's cast lineup includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, David Strathairn, Bryan Cranston, Richard T. Jones, Juliette Binoche, and Sally Hawkins. Akira Takarada, a veteran actor in the original 1954 film (as well as the sequels Mothra vs. Godzilla, Invasion of Astro-Monster, Godzilla Versus the Sea Monster, and Godzilla: Final Wars), appeared on the set last March, but he has since indicated that his planned cameo is not in the final edit of the film.
