posted on by Egan Loo
The official website for Keroro, the new Flash television anime based on Mine Yoshizaki's Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunsō) manga, unveiled a promotional video and a new key visual on Friday. The video features the theme song "Keroro Pop Star" by Mayumi Gojo.
The new series of five-minute shorts will premiere on the Animax channel on March 22 at 7:00 p.m. The Keroro Classic Collection, a weekly set of two episodes from the first Sgt. Frog anime, will then run from 7:05 to 8:00 p.m. The 35th manga volume will go on sale on March 26, and Kawaguchi City will host a "Great Keroro Exhibition: Skip City Invasion!" from April 12 to August 31.
Haruki Kasugamori (DD Hokuto no Ken original concept, Ketsu-Inu director) is directing the new series at anime studio Sunrise. Animation studio Gathering (Donyatsu, PUCHIM@S) is providing assistance with the animation.
The cast of the first Sgt. Frog anime is returning for the new anime:
- Kumiko Watanabe as Sgt. Keroro
- Etsuko Kozakura as Private Second Class Tamama
- Jouji Nakata as Corporal Giroro
- Takehito Koyasu as Sergeant Major Kululu
- Takeshi Kusao as Lance Corporal Dororo
- Houko Kuwashima as Fuyuki Hinata
- Chiwa Saitō as Natsumi Hinata
Funimation has licensed the first three seasons of Sgt. Frog and released them on DVD in North America, after ADV Films had licensed but not released the anime. The original Sgt. Frog anime with fifteen-minute episodes ran for seven years, from 2004 to 2011 on TV Tokyo, and it spawned five feature films. American manga publisher Tokyopop released twenty volumes of the original manga in North America before shutting its doors in 2011.
