Mushishi Anime Special's 2nd Promo Previews Animation

Yuto Nakano returns as Ginko in 1-hour special about sun-eating shade

The official website for the upcoming one-hour Mushishi Tokubetsu-hen: Hihamukage (Mushishi Special: Sun-Eating Shade) anime special began streaming the second promotional video on Wednesday. Voice actress Mika Doi returns from the original television series to narrate the video.

Yuto Nakano is returning to star as Ginko, and Mika Doi will again serve as the narrator. Additionally, Rio Sasaki will play Hinata, and 11-year-old Yuuna Watanabe will play Hiyori.

Hiroshi Nagahama is returning to direct the special at anime studio Artland. Yoshihiko Umakoshi is also returning as character designer and chief animation director.

The anime special will air on January 4 at 11:30 p.m. on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11. The video streaming service Niconico will also stream the special in Japan, and Crunchyroll will stream it into several countries.

Yuki Urushibara's two-chapter special manga is inspiring the television special. Kodansha published the manga in the January and February issues of Afternoon magazine, which shipped on November 25 and December 25 respectively.

Urushibara's manga began in 1995, and finished in Afternoon in 2008. Del Rey published the the manga, and Funimation released Hiroshi Nagahama and Artland's anime adaptation and Katsuhiro Ōtomo's live-action film version in North America.
