Crunchyroll to Stream 1-Hour Mushishi Anime Special

Media service Crunchyroll announced on Friday that it will stream the one-hour Mushi-Shi television anime special. The stream will begin on January 4 at 11:30 a.m. EST for premium members in the U.S., Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South America, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. The stream will then start for free members one week later.
Hiroshi Nagahama is returning to direct the Mushishi Tokubetsu-hen: Hihamukage (Mushishi Special: Sun-Eating Shade) project at animation studio Artland. Yoshihiko Umakoshi is also returning to serve as character designer and chief animation director.
The series' cast will return for the special.
Urushibara is published the two-chapter manga in the January and February issues of Kodansha's Afternoon magazine, which shipped on November 25 and December 25 respectively. The announcement for the new chapters revealed at the time that a "top secret project" was in the works.
Urushibara's manga began in 1995, and finished in Afternoon in 2008. Del Rey published the the manga, and Funimation released Hiroshi Nagahama and Artland's anime adaptation and Katsuhiro Ōtomo's live-action film version in North America.
