Attack on Titan: Junior High spinoff, Inside & Outside guidebooks

North American manga publisher Kodansha Comics announced at its New York Comic Con panel on Friday that it has licensed Saki Nakagawa's Attack on Titan: Junior High (Shingeki! Kyojin Chūgakkō) spinoff manga based on Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan manga, as well as the Attack on Titan Guidebooks: INSIDE & OUTSIDE. Kodansha also noted that Isayama's original manga has 500,000 copies in print in English.

Nakagawa launched the Attack on Titan: Junior High comedy manga in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in April 2012. The manga re-imagines Eren, Mikasa, Armin, and other cast members from the original manga as students and teachers at Titan Junior High School. Kodansha released the second volume in Japan in August. Kodansha Comics will release the manga in North America starting in spring 2014.

The Attack on Titan Guidebook: INSIDE & OUTSIDE is an almost 400 page book that contains concept art, complete character profiles, Attack on Titan papercraft, and more. The book will include more than 16 color pages. Kodansha Comics will release the book in summer 2014.

Isayama's original Attack on Titan manga depicts the battles between humans and the giants who now rule the world outside humans' walled enclaves. Isayama launched the series in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009, and the manga now has 25 million copies in print. Kodansha Comics is publishing the manga in North America on a monthly basis until it is caught up with the Japanese releases.

Both Funimation and Crunchyroll streamed the anime version of the manga as it aired in Japan, and Funimation will release the series on home video next year.
