5 Attack on Titan Graphic Novels Land in U.S. Bookstores' Top 20 in September
posted on by Egan Loo
For the first time, Nielsen BookScan's list of the top 20 graphic novels in American bookstores had more books of Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan manga than any other series, including Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead series — five Attack on Titan books versus two of The Walking Dead in September. The list includes Attack on Titan volumes 1 (ranked #4), 2 (#7), 6 (#9), 3 (#16), and 7 (#18).
The first volume of Naoko Takeuchi's Sailor Moon Short Stories debuted at #1 in September. The 62nd volume of Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto manga slipped from #1 to #3 in its second month.
The 68th volume of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece landed at #6, while third volume of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin also appeared at #13.
All 11 volumes of Attack on Titan have regularly appeared in Oricon's weekly list of the 50 top-selling manga in Japan.
The BookScan rankings represent sales at Barnes & Noble and other book chains, independent bookshops, and online purchases — but not sales at comic book stores, Walmart, and some other venues.
