Ghost in the Shell Director Oshii Praises Kick-Heart in Ad

Production I.G started streaming a television commercial for Masaaki Yuasa's animated short Kick-Heart on Sunday. In the commercial, director Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Mobile Police Patlabor, Sky Crawlers) praised the short, saying, "If Production I.G stopped making this kind of anime, it would mean that Production I.G is finished."
The official Twitter account for the short also noted that there will be an all-night screening of this and other works in Tokyo on September 15. Yuasa and Anime Style Magazine Editor-in-Chief Yūichirō Oguro will appear at the event, which will show anime personally recommended by Yuasa: his own Mind Game, Kick-Heart, the Ace wo Nerae! film, Kyojin no Hoshi episode 83, Tensai Bakabon episode 31, Dokonjo Gaeru episode 145 and 146, and Ogon Senshi Gold Raitan episode 41.
Masaaki Yuasa and Production I.G's "Kick-Heart" is a crowd-funded animated short film about two wrestlers in love. The short premiered in Tokyo in May, and then was shown in competition at this year's Annecy in France in June.
The film was also screened at Anime Expo in July, and screened at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival where it won Best Animated Short Film. It was screened at Laemmle's Royale Theatre in Los Angeles in July with the intention of qualifying for an Oscar nomination.
