The official website for the Mewtwo ~Kakusei e no Prologue~ (Mewtwo: Prologue to the Awakening) brand-new two-hour anime special began streaming a teaser for the anime special on Wednesday. In the video, lab-created Mewtwo asks itself, “Is there a place for me to belong in this world? Where should I go?”
The video also introduces the main characters of the special:
Yūki Kaji (Guilty Crown, Otome Yōkai Zakuro) plays Basil, a trainer who takes pride in his overpowering strength that let him be victorious at the Isshu (Unova) league. Also the leader of Pokémon rescue team Team Eevee, Basil has appeared in the Pokémon anime before.
Emiri Katō (Lucky Star, Pretty Rhythm Rainbow Live) plays Anna (left), while Masaharu Satou (Dr. Slump, Dragon Ball Z Kai) plays Oscar (right), a granddaughter with the mysterious power to understand the feelings of Pokémon, and a grandfather who is a former member of a mountain rescue squad.
Takehito Koyasu (Tales of the Abyss, Myself; Yourself) plays Dunc, a mysterious man who was also saved by Mewtwo in the past. He knows much about the human-created Pokémon.
In addition, Chinami Nishimura will play Eevee, and Reiko Takashima will play Mewtwo, as she will in the upcoming movie.
The former AKB48 idol Atsuko Maeda is serving as "program navigator" host for the special. Maeda is also narrating the upcoming film's accompanying Pikachu short "Pikachu to Eevee Friends."
Kunihiko Yuyama's feature film is billed as the final chapter of Pocket Monsters: Best Wishes! (Pokemon: Black and White!). It will have a confrontation between the legendary Pokémon ExtremeSpeed Red Genesect and Mewtwo, who returns in this installment in an alternate form. The main feature's special guest cast includes veteran voice actor Kouichi Yamadera (Red Genesect), actress Reiko Takashima (Mewtwo), and Takashi Yoshimura and Kenta Tokui of the comedy duo Heisei Nobushikobushi (Eric and Geodude/Ishitsubute from Pokémon Hills). Yamadera and Masachika Ichimura voiced Mew and Mewtwo, respectively, in Pokémon: The First Movie.
The special will premiere on Japan's TV Tokyo channel on July 11 at 7:00 p.m.
