1st Attack on Titan Blu-ray/DVD to Bundle Manga 'Prototype'

posted on by Egan Loo
Creator Hajime Isayama drew 65-page 1-shot manga when he was only 19

The manga bundled with the initial copies of the first Attack on Titan Blu-ray Disc/DVD volume will be the "prototype" manga that original creator Hajime Isayama drew when he was only 19 years old. The June issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine is making the announcement about the manga on Thursday.

The 65-page one-shot manga has never been released before. In his comments in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine, Isayama described the one-shot as the prototype of the manga series that he now draws in the magazine. The television anime's website had previously described the manga bonus as "unpublished manga Volume 0."

The current manga series depicts the battles between humans and the giants who now rule the world outside humans' walled enclaves. Isayama launched the series in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009. The manga has become a sleeper hit, and Kodansha USA is publishing it in North America. Both Funimation and Crunchyroll are streaming the anime version as it airs in Japan, and a live-action film version is slated for next year.
