This year's 12th issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Original magazine revealed last week that manga creator Shinichi Ishizuka plans to unveil his new work in or around spring 2013. The final chapter of Ishizuka's Gaku - Minna no Yama manga debuted in the same issue.
The 17th compiled volume of Gaku - Minna no Yama will ship in Japan on July 30. The series launched in Big Comic Original in 2003, and the manga's first 16 volumes have sold over 4.5 million copies. The story deals with the human drama of a climber on a mountain rescue team who travels the world to scale mountains.
In 2008, Gaku - Minna no Yama received the first ever Manga Taisho award, and in 2009, it won the 54th Shogakukan Manga Award in the "General" category. A live-action film adaptation of the manga starring Shun Oguri premiered in Japan in May 2011.
